“Watch” This

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and Timepiece Things

In the antique jewelry business, we often have pieces that have outlived their relevance.  Their time has already come and gone…  watches are a perfect example of this.  The advancement of watches has gone through several phases – from a wind-up movement to a quartz movement to a smart watch.  Even more often, watches have been set aside for the ease and convenience of a cellular phone.

Jewelry created during the Edwardian and Art Deco periods (1900 – 1930’s), was painstakingly crafted from white gold and platinum.  Artisans created elaborate patterns with lacey filigree set with dozens of tiny diamonds.  Wristwatches were no exception.  You can understand why it seems like a sin to send these intricate beauties to the refinery to be melted into a blog of nothingness.  Unfortunately, that is exactly what has happened to many antique watches.

As you know, at Joden, we specialize in antique restoration.  More recently, we have been doing more recreating than restoring.

Each of these lovely bracelets shown above used to be a watch.  We carefully removed the stem, crown, and movement and replaced it with a specially cut piece of onyx.  I love how we have retained the original cord-style bands.  It give each one an authentic feel and allows the bracelet to be custom fit to any wrist.  Check them out on our website – pricing starts at $1700.00.

I inherited a gold watch from my Great Aunt that has been rattling around in my jewelry box for at least five years.  These conversions have inspired me to get it out and have my own watch/bracelet made!  I’ll be sure to share a photo as soon as it’s done.  In the meantime, don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter and have “Joden Girl” delivered straight to your inbox!

All That Glitters Is Gold

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and Golden Things

Joden Jewelers is nestled in the heart of Grove City, Pennsylvania.  With a population hovering around 8000, it’s more Mayberry than Manhattan.  If you’re the kind of girl who has your eye on current trends and hot new styles, you should probably know that we tend to trail about two years behind the rest of the world.  Until now.

While yellow gold is making a splash on the Red Carpet in Hollywood, and popping up on the New York fashion runways, our customers are also requesting this throwback metal.  For more than twenty years, white metals have reigned supreme – platinum, white gold, and sterling silver.  But for the last couple years, yellow gold has been slowly inching its way back into the spotlight.

Some are calling it sleek and trendy, while others say its vintage-inspired.  Either way, it seems like the natural richness of yellow gold is here to stay.  But don’t put away all your white metals – just warm them up with a classic piece, perhaps a pair of antique earrings like these.

The first pair are Etruscan Revival.  Etruscan Revival was a movement during the Grand Period (1860-1885) of the Victorian Era.  Artisans revived the art of ancient techniques using corded wire, filigree, and granulation.  These earrings are made from 18 karat yellow gold with a tiny diamond in the center of each.  They are available on our website for just $1550.00.

If you’re a diamond girl, then the second pair of earrings are for you!  Made in classic lever-back style with two Old Mine Cut diamonds on each one, these are perfect for every day wear.  Priced at $2500.00.

From Mayberry to Manhattan and everywhere in between – Go for the gold!

Put A Ring On It

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and Engagement Rings

There is no better gift for Christmas than a shiny, sparkling diamond engagement ring.  Christmas is a magical holiday all on it’s own – combine that with the promise of a lifetime and a stunning ring – it’s a match made in heaven!

At Joden, we have the perfect engagement ring for everyone.  Modern, vintage, classic, and non-traditional.  Diamonds in every shape and size.  Gold in every color – white, yellow, and rose.  Platinum, too!  The possibilities are as endless as the commitment it represents.

The ring on the left is a platinum Art Deco ring from the 1920’s.  Six navette shapes provide just enough detail to highlight the 1.25 carat center stone.  At nearly 100 years old, this ring is the epitome of classic.  It is available on our website now for only $8900.

The ring on the right is a Mid Century beauty.  The transitional modern cut center stone weighs in at .75 carats and is flanked by eight single cut diamonds.  This ring also has a hint of engraving on the shoulders.  When you combine each of these elements with great value (priced at just $4500!), it’s a deal too good to resist.

If you’re looking for a crisp new ring, but love all the details of an Art Deco piece, this is the one for you.  You won’t be able to stop staring at this 1.00 carat center diamond.  Graded as a “D” color, it is among the rarest in the world.  This 18 karat white gold ring also features eight custom cut natural blue sapphires, six fully faceted round diamonds, filigree wirework, and intricate engraving.  This showstopper is available now on our website for $11,050.

Take some of that Christmas magic and make it your own with a ring from Joden Jewelers.

We have two more days of holiday hours.  Our showroom is open today and tomorrow from 9am-8pm with select hours on Christmas Eve.  As always, our website is available 24/7 with free overnight shipping to ensure holiday delivery.
