What’s New – Volume 42

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

You cannot plan for the unexpected.

535.  If we’re talking about dollars left in your bank account, that’s a relatively small number.  If we’re talking about how many dollars a piece of jewelry costs, it’s still a relatively low number…  but in both cases, the extenuating circumstances are everything.  Perhaps you only have $535 left in your account…  but tomorrow is payday.  Or it may be that you have a winning lottery ticket in your pocket.  It could be that you’ve fallen in love with a ring on our site that is priced at $535…  you may have to think about the purchase.  But maybe your anniversary is next week and your significant other has been hounding you for a gift suggestion…  or maybe you’ll decide to put it on layaway or even take advantage of our interest free financing.

535.  Actually, it’s the number of blogs I have published.  I can’t say it’s the number that I have written, because I have deleted so many of them in an attempt to find something new and engaging to talk about.  That’s a lot of jewelry…  incredible, inspiring and oh-so desirable jewelry.  As you can imagine, it can be challenging to find something fresh – something eye-catching.

Sometimes that piece is totally unexpected…  like this one.  At a time when yellow gold is experiencing an overwhelmingly large resurgence  – this platinum ring managed to stop me in my tracks.  I’m rarely attracted to the color green but the deep olive tone of this marquise-cut jade is refreshingly lovely.  The ballerina style hasn’t been popular since the Mid Century Modern era – but there’s something striking about the spray of baguette and round diamonds that surround the center jade.

Getting back to numbers, the jade weighs 2.05 carats.  The fourteen baguette diamonds have a combined weight of .54 carat while the twenty-four round diamonds offer an additional .29 carat of sparkle.  Accompanied by a report from the International Gemological Institute of America, this ring has a retail replacement value of $5,740.00.  We are featuring it on our website for just $2,750.00 – that’s more than a 50% savings!  Today, everyone is talking about numbers…  whether it be the price of gas or the cost of a loaf of bread.  In a time when everything is getting more expensive, we’re saving you money.  The 535th blog piece is quite a showstopper AND it’s available at a significantly reduced price.  Check it out online or in the store today.

It’s Hip to be Square

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Geometric Things

Sleek and modern, this piece sits on my desk like a tiny sculpture.  Bold lines form the outer parallelogram shape.  It’s cleverly divided into two portions with the dividing line marked by a fourteen karat white gold band.  A unique pattern continues around the perimeter, a repeating design that features “T” shaped cut-outs.  This intricate detail sits approximately an eighth of an inch from the rectangular top.

Above this miniature belt is a tablet of lavender jade.  Subtle marbling and a beveled edge bring this soft purple stone to life.  The lower and larger segment is also jade… but the lavender color has segued into a vibrant green.  With such drastic and diverse color change, you would think these are two completely separate stones.  Instead this contemporary gem is carved from a singular piece of jade.  The hues are vivid and complement each other to perfection. Utterly charming, this is more than just a work of art…

It’s a ring!  Made in the 1950’s, this dynamic Mid Century Modern design is elegantly eccentric.  Due to its durability and versatility, jade has been used to make everything from weapons to musical instruments.  Ancient civilizations sculpted tools from this silky smooth stone.  The inherent beauty of the mineral made it a natural choice for jewelry.  Ancient Chinese civilizations attributed five virtues to jade… Charity, Rectitude, Wisdom, Courage, and Equity.

This ring is not for everyone.  The modernist look sets it apart, beckoning to those with an eye for cutting edge style and a sense of adventure.  Unable to be sized, finding the perfect person for this ring could be a bit like the quest of Cinderella’s glass slipper.  It measures just over an 8 on the ring mandrel…  too big for any of my fingers.  If it did fit, I would prefer it on an index or middle finger.  Moderately priced at $2,150 – where would you wear it?

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 83

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

Last week, I shared two rings that made the “Top Ten Rings Available at Joden” list compiled by renowned jewelry blogger Danielle Miele.  Her popular column often inspires me to look at jewelry and gemstones in a new light.  She selected a jade beauty, noting that she has been obsessed with the green stone lately.

This elongated Art Nouveau stunner was Danielle’s pick.  Made from swirling golden vines that surround a bezel set bright green jade center, it is the ideal ornamentation for a middle finger.  A pair of old cut diamonds add the tiniest bit of sparkle, the ring is priced at $2000.00.  I’ve never been a jade girl and I have passed over this ring in Joe’s Special Box a million times…  tossed it aside in favor of something more appealing to me.  But when I found out it made the list, I gave it a chance.  It’s really grown on me…  so much so that I sought out another one.

This little charmer is my pick (also from Joe’s Special Box).  It’s made from 22 karat yellow gold (the bright color is to die for!) with an intricate pattern of s-shaped swirls that create the gallery under the center stone.  The color of the lovely cabochon jade is what hooked me…  it’s a glorious marbling of apple green with a darker grass green.  And when I slid it onto my finger, it fit perfectly.  I have to admit, I’m a sucker for that.  I have been wearing it the entire time I have been writing.  I love that after over twenty years in the jewelry industry, I can still find a new inspiration.  So, thank you Danielle – you’ve converted me into a jade lover!  Take it home today for $2250.00.
