Pick of the Week – Volume 44

Joden Girl

Baubles and Bling with Unbelievable Pricing

Ice, ice baby…  the cool and colorless diamond in the center of this ring reminds me of a perfectly symmetrical cube of ice.  Weighing 1.01 carats, this square emerald cut diamond is laboratory certified as F-G in color.  A diamond that is colorless is much more rare than one with body color.

Emerald cut is one of my absolute favorite shapes for a diamond.  Only the finest stones are cut into this unique shape; this diamond certainly qualifies.  Not only is color of the stone bright white, but the clarity grade is also stellar – hitting the charts at VS2-SI1.  The crisp clean lines are classic and refined.

Constructed from platinum, the mounting has a delicate appeal with a graceful silhouette.  Flanking the center stone are a perfectly matched pair of bullet cut diamonds.  These two stones have a combined weight of .20 carat.  The unusual cut resembles a small arrow – each one pointing down the shank of the ring.  A slight groove has been etched into the band at the base of each bullet, adding a very subtle texture to the ring.

Only a highly skilled craftsman can achieve this level of beauty in a ring that is so simplistic in design.  It’s no surprise to discover the “Tiffany and Co.” hallmark inside this austere engagement ring.  Having been on the Joden site for quite awhile, we decided that this ring is often overlooked and most definitely under appreciated.

It’s Hip to be Square

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Geometric Things

Sleek and modern, this piece sits on my desk like a tiny sculpture.  Bold lines form the outer parallelogram shape.  It’s cleverly divided into two portions with the dividing line marked by a fourteen karat white gold band.  A unique pattern continues around the perimeter, a repeating design that features “T” shaped cut-outs.  This intricate detail sits approximately an eighth of an inch from the rectangular top.

Above this miniature belt is a tablet of lavender jade.  Subtle marbling and a beveled edge bring this soft purple stone to life.  The lower and larger segment is also jade… but the lavender color has segued into a vibrant green.  With such drastic and diverse color change, you would think these are two completely separate stones.  Instead this contemporary gem is carved from a singular piece of jade.  The hues are vivid and complement each other to perfection. Utterly charming, this is more than just a work of art…

It’s a ring!  Made in the 1950’s, this dynamic Mid Century Modern design is elegantly eccentric.  Due to its durability and versatility, jade has been used to make everything from weapons to musical instruments.  Ancient civilizations sculpted tools from this silky smooth stone.  The inherent beauty of the mineral made it a natural choice for jewelry.  Ancient Chinese civilizations attributed five virtues to jade… Charity, Rectitude, Wisdom, Courage, and Equity.

This ring is not for everyone.  The modernist look sets it apart, beckoning to those with an eye for cutting edge style and a sense of adventure.  Unable to be sized, finding the perfect person for this ring could be a bit like the quest of Cinderella’s glass slipper.  It measures just over an 8 on the ring mandrel…  too big for any of my fingers.  If it did fit, I would prefer it on an index or middle finger.  Moderately priced at $2,150 – where would you wear it?

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 129

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

Some people are crazy over diamonds, some love sapphires.  Maybe you’re a pearl fan.  For me, it’s the little things.  I can’t resist tiny treasures… not just small in size, but also small in price.  I adore trinkets that I can buy for myself, guilt free!  This week, we have a pair of rings that are practically perfect in every way AND won’t break the bank.

Pick your poison – white gold or yellow, each of these two rings feature a shell cameo.  Simplistic in design, the yellow gold ring resembles a picture frame.  Made from 10 karat gold, it offers an uncomplicated style that is easy to wear.  In contrast, the other ring is overflowing with fine points.  Fourteen karat white gold wire is carefully woven into an intricately beautiful setting that holds the brown and white shell cameo.  Further enhancing the band of the ring are subtle engraved patterns.  And my favorite feature is the tiny diamond necklace the adorns the neck of the figure!  Both visions of vintage delight, right?

But wait!  There’s more…  check out this clever element.  The center of each ring spins on a pivot pin, allowing it to flip over.

Once fully locked in place, these two rings each have a smooth black onyx stone where the seashell cameo was just a moment before.  These unique gems are often called flip rings.  These pieces have dual personalities, offering two distinct looks in just one ring.

Like a game of hide-and-seek, these photos allow a unique peek from the back.  This behind the scenes perspective clearly illustrates the ability for each side to hide behind the other.  Two looks for the price of one.  Speaking of price, as promised, these beauties are affordable.  The yellow gold flip ring is available for just $375 and the white gold one sells for only $475.  The tiny treasures are indicative of the kinds of things you’ll find in Joe’s Special Box.  If you love them as much as we do, call the store or stop by for additional details.
