Pick of the Week – Volume 44

Joden Girl

Baubles and Bling with Unbelievable Pricing

Ice, ice baby…  the cool and colorless diamond in the center of this ring reminds me of a perfectly symmetrical cube of ice.  Weighing 1.01 carats, this square emerald cut diamond is laboratory certified as F-G in color.  A diamond that is colorless is much more rare than one with body color.

Emerald cut is one of my absolute favorite shapes for a diamond.  Only the finest stones are cut into this unique shape; this diamond certainly qualifies.  Not only is color of the stone bright white, but the clarity grade is also stellar – hitting the charts at VS2-SI1.  The crisp clean lines are classic and refined.

Constructed from platinum, the mounting has a delicate appeal with a graceful silhouette.  Flanking the center stone are a perfectly matched pair of bullet cut diamonds.  These two stones have a combined weight of .20 carat.  The unusual cut resembles a small arrow – each one pointing down the shank of the ring.  A slight groove has been etched into the band at the base of each bullet, adding a very subtle texture to the ring.

Only a highly skilled craftsman can achieve this level of beauty in a ring that is so simplistic in design.  It’s no surprise to discover the “Tiffany and Co.” hallmark inside this austere engagement ring.  Having been on the Joden site for quite awhile, we decided that this ring is often overlooked and most definitely under appreciated.

Unmatched Brilliance

 Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Dazzling Things

Originally dubbed as a “table cut,” this rectangular beauty is one of the oldest diamond shapes with roots dating back to the 1500’s.  Resembling a hall of mirrors, it gained a new name in the 1920’s.  Featuring 57 facets, the emerald cut diamond (as it is now known) is recognized as perhaps the most elegant and sophisticated of all the silhouettes.

While it can be challenging to improve upon near perfection, there have been rare instances throughout history.  In 1981, Christopher Slowinski introduced the world to Christopher Designs.  He is a master stone cutter and a visionary, he single-handedly revolutionized the emerald cut diamond.  Elaborating upon the existing profile, Slowinski added triangular shaped facets to the steps in the pavilion (lower half) of the stone taking it from fifty-seven to a whopping seventy-seven facets!  This expert design capitalizes on the scintillation and light dispersion, producing a continuous exchange of light – bouncing back and forth with mesmerizing results.  Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Original Crisscut Emerald Diamond.

We recently added this dazzler to our estate collection.  Made entirely from platinum, this ring is a true showstopper.  The center stone is a 1.51 carat Crisscut diamond.  This beauty is perfectly nestled between a series of twenty-four Crisscut tapered baguette diamonds that graduate in size with a combined weight of 1.49 carats.  Finally, the three-row look is completed with seventy-four round brilliant stones.  These diamonds outline both sides as well as the center and add an additional .70 carat of bling.  All told, the total gem weight of this modern marvel is 3.70 carats!  Wow!

An elegant engagement ring or a sophisticated anniversary band?  This ring is ideal for every occassion.  And it’s a real steal…  the primary advantage of estate jewelry is undoubtedly the price!  Make this authentic Crisscut Diamond ring yours for just $16,750.00.

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 46

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

Meet my newest obsession!  I have always been a fan of emerald-cut diamonds.  I love the sleek lines, the elongated geometric shape and the classic style.  But this charmer caught me by surprise.  The center stone has ALOT of punch for the money – and it’s actually a bit of designer genius.  This step-cut diamond looks like a one carat diamond, but actually only weighs .50 carat.  You may be wondering, how can that be?  As I said, the creator of this ring was a bit of a genius.  The diamond is surrounded by a halo of high-polished 14 karat white gold.  This thin band of metal actually makes the diamond look larger and is difficult to detect without using a loupe or magnification.  A small straight baguette cut diamond sits to the right and left of the center stone.  It’s a tiny yet significant detail that enhances the timeless feel of this engagement ring.  Priced at $3500, this is the kind of piece that I love to find in Joe’s Special Box.  I know that it will have a new life beyond Joden – some lucky girl will wear this ring for the rest of her life.  And hopefully, she’ll pass it on to a daughter or a son.  It will become an heirloom.
