Joe’s Special Box – Volume 45

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

250 million roses will be sold this year for Valentine’s Day.  For hundreds of years, flowers have symbolized love and romance.  Sadly, those fragrant blossoms will begin to fade the moment they’re snipped…  lasting about a week or less after you bring them home.

Perhaps I can entice you with an alternative from Joe’s Special Box.  These stunning Art Nouveau earrings (handcrafted over 100 years ago), are in excellent condition with very little change since the day they were made.  Each vine-like drop begins and ends with a fully enameled pink bud connected with a series of faint green leaves.  The detail on every petal is incredible.  These beauties are available for just $1650.

If you purchased just one dozen roses each year for your significant other, that would total something like $3,000…  provided the loves lasts for half a century or more.  That certainly makes these earrings seem like quite a bargain, especially for roses that are sure to last a lifetime.

A Trio of Tenderness

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and Romantic Things

It’s already the second Friday in January…  the month is flying by.  Temperatures have dropped below freezing; for the first time, it actually feels like winter.  Days like this make me want to snuggle back down under the covers and stay in bed all day!

What better way to warm up the day than with a bit of high karat gold?  This beautiful Art Nouveau bracelet is a ray of sunshine on an otherwise dreary morning.  The piece appears quite simple at first glance, however, close inspection reveals the true beauty in each golden link.  Made at the end of the 19th century, this bracelet features a trio of hearts made in classic Repoussé style (three dimensional design work that is achieved by raising the gold from the back side).  It creates a gorgeous high relief look.  Two rows of interlocking rings pass through the center of the largest heart.  Every loop has been handcrafted, with an outer and an inner ring, providing the strength needed to wear this bracelet every day.

This second pictures shows the bracelet stretched out to it’s full glory – just the way it would look on the wrist.  It’s available in our showroom now, priced at $1,900.00 – just in time for Valentine’s Day!

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 44

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

Although winter has barely begun, I am already anxiously awaiting signs of Spring.  This lovely Essex Crystal brooch with a bright blue and yellow hummingbird is like a ray of sunshine on this dreary day.  These unique and unusual pieces were crafted from 1860-1920.  The artist would begin with perfectly half-round or cabochon piece of rock crystal and then painstakingly carve an intricate design deep into the heart of the stone from the back side.  Next, the subject or scene was hand-painted to bring every tiny detail to life…  each feather of the bird and each  leaf of the fern.  Finally, a glossy piece of mother-of-pearl was applied  – this created a three dimensional effect.  Encased in a 9 karat rosy gold bezel, it’s a whimsical miniature masterpiece.  Priced at $6300, this is a treasure that will continue to delight for generations yet to come.
