Glorious Green

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Colorful Things

Joden Jewelers will celebrate 54 years of business next month.  For most of those years, we have been a purveyor of antique, estate and modern jewelry.  When I started working at the store in 1995, there was just one case of vintage jewelry.  The case itself had a decidedly 1970’s vibe, with plastic woodgrain panels on the pedestal base and a five-foot octagonal glass top.  There were two tiny doors (maybe 12-inches total) that accessed the display space.  I had to kneel on the floor and reach my arm (all the way up to my shoulder) inside that door in a vain attempt to create an alluring arrangement of goods – a challenge indeed!

Today, the antique and estate jewelry encompasses more than half of the store, with just six cases dedicated to the modern era.  And yet, there is not a doubt in my mind that several estate jewels can be found mixed among those modern gems.  Vintage jewelry is not just woven into the fiber of Joden Jewelers…  it is, in fact, the lifeblood of the company.  Nearly every blog that I write pays homage to a pre-owned piece; I rarely choose something new.

Today is one of those days…  I simply could not resist this ring.  I am completely captivated by that glorious green center stone.  Showcasing a diamond-pattern checker cut top, this rectangular tourmaline is true beauty.  The light dances across the stone, flashing hues of kelly, juniper, forest and even emerald green.  The depth of color has me picking my jaw up off the floor!  Weighing exactly 9.78 carats, this tourmaline is simply stunning.

Made from 18-karat white gold, the ring itself perfectly complements the center stone.  Made in a subtle halo-style, this ring boasts a pair of tapered baguette diamonds as well as eighty-eight round brilliant diamonds.  Combined, these diamonds offer .86 carat of scintillating sparkle.  My favorite detail of the mounting is hidden, it’s a little secret for the lucky gal who wears the ring…

I absolutely love that pair of inverse heart cut-outs – so sweet!  Tourmaline is available in every color of the rainbow.  Additionally, each hue can also be found in various degrees of saturation and tone.  There is an ideal shade of tourmaline for everyone.  If this one is perfect for you, check it out on our site where it’s available for just $2,850.00.

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

Lately I am obsessed with green.  Don’t get me wrong – I’m still true blue – but green is creeping up on me!  I’ve been drawn to emeralds (my birthstone) – a rarity for me.  It’s the deep hues, those dark tones that catch my eye.  And of course, in terms of emeralds, those are the finest and most expensive ones… definitely not in my budget.  Due to a series of unfortunate events, I had to choose a last-minute replacement for today’s blog.  While I was digging around, I uncovered a doozy!

Platinum from top to bottom, this early 1940’s beauty stopped me in my tracks.  Thirty-four single-cut diamonds create a perfect oval halo.  With a combined weight of approximately 1.00 carat, they are the ideal complement to the center stone.  Measuring about an inch from top to bottom, this gem is bold and beautiful.  The deep green color can only be described as emerald green…  but this is no emerald.  It’s tourmaline – the prettiest one I have ever seen.

It’s more than pretty.  It’s mesmerizing.  Nearly reaching from knuckle to knuckle, this ring is SO good.  Everything about it is right… even the price.  An emerald in this size and color would be astronomically expensive.  However, this platinum, diamond and tourmaline gem is priced at just $2,150.00.  It’s a lot of look for the money…  we’re talking serious bang for your buck.

Here’s how it looks on my hand…  come on in and see how it looks on yours!

Baubles, Bling, and The Latest Things

If you’re a regular on our social media, you know that we love our conversion jewelry!  We love taking something that’s been laying around here and giving it a new life.  Sometimes a piece is worn out, broken or perhaps just no longer relevant.  To take that and create something fresh is so satisfying.

Our most recent passion has been conversion rings.  For years we shied away from them – but just a few months ago, with the addition of our new jeweler, we got brave!  Whether it be an old stick pin, or perhaps a shirt stud from a tuxedo set – these little finds make the sweetest rings when you combine them with the perfect band.

We’re crazy over this oh-so-elegant gem.  Formerly an oversize slide pendant, this incredible green tourmaline was constantly overlooked.  When we paired it with this simple yellow gold band, this elongated emerald cut deep green stone came alive.  It’s available in our conversion case for just $850.00.

If you love the first ring, this one will knock your socks off.  Made from 18 karat yellow and a bit of white gold, this ring is true showstopper.  Measuring 1.5 inches from top to bottom, this ring reaches from knuckle to knuckle on my hand.  The emerald cut tourmaline weighs 10.00 carats and is surrounded by twenty-two diamonds that have a total weight of .75 carat.  Framed by a bold gold border, this ring is everything you never knew you needed.  Priced at $3,750.00 – it’s too good to miss.

Shown together, we’re dying to know which one is your favorite.    Which would you choose – simple elegance or over-the-top bling?  Can’t wait to hear from you!
