Glorious Green

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Colorful Things

Joden Jewelers will celebrate 54 years of business next month.  For most of those years, we have been a purveyor of antique, estate and modern jewelry.  When I started working at the store in 1995, there was just one case of vintage jewelry.  The case itself had a decidedly 1970’s vibe, with plastic woodgrain panels on the pedestal base and a five-foot octagonal glass top.  There were two tiny doors (maybe 12-inches total) that accessed the display space.  I had to kneel on the floor and reach my arm (all the way up to my shoulder) inside that door in a vain attempt to create an alluring arrangement of goods – a challenge indeed!

Today, the antique and estate jewelry encompasses more than half of the store, with just six cases dedicated to the modern era.  And yet, there is not a doubt in my mind that several estate jewels can be found mixed among those modern gems.  Vintage jewelry is not just woven into the fiber of Joden Jewelers…  it is, in fact, the lifeblood of the company.  Nearly every blog that I write pays homage to a pre-owned piece; I rarely choose something new.

Today is one of those days…  I simply could not resist this ring.  I am completely captivated by that glorious green center stone.  Showcasing a diamond-pattern checker cut top, this rectangular tourmaline is true beauty.  The light dances across the stone, flashing hues of kelly, juniper, forest and even emerald green.  The depth of color has me picking my jaw up off the floor!  Weighing exactly 9.78 carats, this tourmaline is simply stunning.

Made from 18-karat white gold, the ring itself perfectly complements the center stone.  Made in a subtle halo-style, this ring boasts a pair of tapered baguette diamonds as well as eighty-eight round brilliant diamonds.  Combined, these diamonds offer .86 carat of scintillating sparkle.  My favorite detail of the mounting is hidden, it’s a little secret for the lucky gal who wears the ring…

I absolutely love that pair of inverse heart cut-outs – so sweet!  Tourmaline is available in every color of the rainbow.  Additionally, each hue can also be found in various degrees of saturation and tone.  There is an ideal shade of tourmaline for everyone.  If this one is perfect for you, check it out on our site where it’s available for just $2,850.00.

Hot or Not – Volume One

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Fantasy Things

Christmas is already a memory and New Year’s is on the horizon.  We have hopes and dreams for the coming year.  There are resolutions to be made (and often broken) and visions of grandeur for 2020; castles in the sky and fantasies.

At Joden, fantasy has a whole different kind of meaning.  Check out this awe-inspiring beauty from the 1970’s.

An entrepreneur and visionary, Bernd Munsteiner single-handedly revolutionized gem cutting in the 1960’s.  His free-cutting technique broke free from all the accepted shapes and cuts like round, oval, and square.  His eccentric faceting style reveled in the uniqueness of each gem and showcased the ingenuity of the lapidary.

Recently, this 18 karat yellow gold bauble appeared on Joe’s desk.  And I have to admit, I have been fascinated with it ever since.  The question is – Do I like it or not?  I love the sleek line of the wider shank.  Made with a bypass-like flair, the ring cathedrals up to form the structure that holds that luscious greenstone – a 4.00 fantasy cut green tourmaline.  It’s futuristic and chic and is moderately priced at $1,875.00.

When these stones first came on the scene, many jewelers were taken aback.  The “outside of the box” thinking was rejected initially.  As time went on, and horizons widened, the popularity of fantasy cut gems grew exponentially.  Some of the more intricate works are highly collectible, with some finding permanent homes in museums.

What do you think of this enigmatic enchantress?  Hot or Not?  I can’t wait to see what you think!
