What’s New – Volume 31

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and The Latest Things

Made at the end of the Edwardian era, these dangly earrings are just too good!  Perfectly sized and beautifully designed, they are made from an unbeatable combination of platinum and 14-karat yellow gold.

Beginning with two dainty bezel-set old cut diamonds then flaring out with two uniquely shaped links, the overall form of the earring is elegant and refined.  Each one culminates with a scalloped-edge floret.

Made in three distinct sections, these floral links center on a matched pair of Old Mine Cut diamonds that have a total weight of .40 carat.  Encircling those diamonds are a halo of deep red calibré-cut rubies.  Well-matched in both size and color these gems have a combined weight of approximately .80 carat.  Forming that scalloped petal edge are sixteen additional old cut diamonds; added to the twenty-diamonds set in the remainder of the earring – the forty stones have a total weight of .80 carat.

Still ensconced in their original leather box, these beauties are authentic and original, moderately priced at just $3,675.00.  This could just be my favorite fresh find yet!

Getting Personal with the Personnel – Volume 1

Baubles, Bling, and Personal Things

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Insider Information

Born Andrea Caroline in 1975, I have answered to many names but rarely my birth name.  My family has called me Carrie all my life and I have since accumulated multiple titles…  daughter, sister, friend, wife and mother.  Someday I hope to add grandma to that list.

This is my second time around at Joden Jewelers – collectively, I have worked for the company for over twenty years.  In all that time, no two days are ever the same.  That’s one of the most unique aspects of working here.  One day I might answer 150 emails and 20 phone calls and the next day could find me sifting through a recently acquired estate of antique jewelry…  quite literally digging for treasures.  It’s impossible to be bored when you never know what is going to happen from one day to the next.

I don’t have a favorite piece…  more like a favorite theme.  I love floral pieces, especially daisies.  Vintage or new, silver or gold – I am a sucker for jewelry that features flowers.  By definition, Art Nouveau is the celebration of the woman in nature.  It’s my favorite period.  The simple beauty of the curving gold lines paired with enameled figures and flowers is enchanting.  In the pictures shown here, you can see a few pieces from my personal collection.  Just for fun, I had Dana add one of my LEAST favorite items at Joden into the collage.  Can you guess which one it is?

My biggest accomplishment during the time I have been with the company is the collaborative efforts of Dana and I on our social media presence; that includes all things Facebook, Instagram, the website and this blog.  This edition marks the 508th blog that I have written.  It has definitely been a journey filled with some extremely high highs and some lows as well.  For every time I have struggled to find words there is also a celebratory moment with Dana over an internet sale.  It is a source of great  pride and real accomplishment for me.

Another thing that I love doing is designing new pieces of conversion jewelry, including this most recent addition.  Last Saturday I found the sweetest Victorian circle pin.  With a 14-karat yellow gold base and a silver top, the delicate daisy wreath appealed to me on almost every level.  The simple ring of rose-cut diamond accented flowers, dainty leaves and pearl adornments was perfect, except that it was a pin.  Looking for an ideal complement for the daisy brooch had me digging through four trays of stick pins.  Finally, I had a “Eureka” moment!  After a quick consultation, our bench jeweler Debbie made conversion magic…

Two previously unworn gems are now one extremely wearable pendant.  Soon to be added to the website, this beauty is available in the store now for just $575.00.  Stop by, say “hi” and see it for yourself.

What’s New – Volume 30

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and The Latest Things

At first glance, jewelry can often appear to be simple – straightforward.  But with the help of a loupe and a trained eye, we can begin to appreciate each detail.  Recently we acquired a real Art Deco stunner.  Like most pieces from the era, this vision is made entirely of platinum.  The shank of the ring is narrow and delicate…  at the shoulder, it forks into three fingers.  The outer two are basic clean lines but the center one is an artfully tapered leaf-like form.  It flares out at the top and then comes back to a point.  This elegant element is duplicated on the other side.

Those six fingers cradle the center component – two diamond squares.  The outer equilateral figure is filled with twelve round diamonds that have a combined weight of approximately .50 carat.  They form a border for a single center diamond.  This square emerald cut sparkler weighs approximately .70 carat and is set within a milgrain-edged border.  The appeal of a step-cut diamond is different than that of a brilliant-cut stone.  Step-cuts offer an enchanting sophisticated charm.  The two outlines that encase the twelve round diamonds also feature the same beaded edge.  Milgrain is a classic detail that was very prominent in the Art Deco period.  There is a perfectly symmetrical gap between the center stone and the halo that surrounds it.  This seemingly irrelevant detail is my favorite part of the ring.  The space between the inner and outer squares accentuates the crisp, clean refinement of the center stone.

The ring is striking on the hand.  It’s in superb original condition considering it was made in the 1930’s.  Soon to be a featured piece on our site, this estate ring is available now for $4,900.00.
