Nuances of Nouveau

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Artistic Things

The years between 1890 and 1910 were arguably some of the most creative and organically opulent in jewelry history.  Explosions of multi-colored flowers, trailing leafy vines and curvaceous golden whiplash lines were the backbone of the Art Nouveau era.  Inspiring and perhaps molding some of the most celebrated jewelers of the past 150 years, the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century is my absolute favorite period.

Brooches and small pins were the most popular works of the time.  Bracelets are more rare, and this week’s offering is a true work of art.  Measuring 7 inches from end to end with seven identical links that house a cleverly hidden clasp, this beauty is a botanical masterpiece.

The bracelet features an 18 karat yellow gold frame with a series of silver accents (a nod to the Victorian era).  In the form of an elegant oval, each open link is decorated with a spray of three enameled pink flowers.  In the center of each one is a deep red bezel set round ruby.  There are twenty-one rubies with a combined weight of approximately 1.00 carat.

Nestled deep within the rich patina of the silver accents are fifty-six single-cut diamonds that offer 1.25 carats of sparkle.  With large open expanses, delicate rosy pink flowers, fine rubies and glistening diamonds – this bracelet strikes the absolute perfect balance.  It’s sizable enough to be noticed but the overall aesthetic feel of the bracelet is quite feminine.  Although this bit of arm candy has a light and airy appearance, in reality it’s got real weight.  It’s solid and very wearable.

A perfect addition to your spring and summer wardrobe, this piece is moderately priced at $5,500.00.  Add a nuance of Art Nouveau to your life by dropping by our store and making it yours!  If you aren’t local, we’d love to chat with you through one these options:

What’s New – Volume 26

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and The Latest Things

Pearls are one of those things for me…  99% of the time, they aren’t my style.  Although I am in awe of how they’re formed, I’m just not a pearl girl.  I own one strand – it’s choker length, comprised of a series of creamy colored very small beads.  I pull it out of my jewelry box once or twice a year, most often to layer it with another necklace.  However, every once in a very long while a particular strand will attract my attention.

This double strand is the epitome of elegance.  Laying at the base of the throat, these perfectly matched orbs offer luminous shades of ivory, cream and soft pink.  Measuring between two and three millimeters each, these lustrous beads are strung on silk cord.  There are five 18 karat white gold bars that provide structure to the necklace.

The clasp is the true star of this show.  Made from 18 karat white gold, it’s the perfect decoration for this traditional design.  Bezel set in the center is one small oval sapphire.  This cabochon beauty is set east/west and weighs approximately .50 carat.  Surrounding this sapphire in halo style and accenting the remainder of the piece are twenty-six round brilliant diamonds that have a combined weight of .50 carat.

Perfect for a new bride, a high school or college graduate, or perhaps a milestone birthday – this necklace is on our website for $2,250.00.  Where do you stand – are you a pearl lover?  And if you are, what occasion would you wear these gems for?

Signature Series – Volume 1

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Quality Things

In our never-ending quest to find fresh pieces for social media and the website, Dana and I dig through hundreds of pieces.  We get ridiculously excited over new lots of estate jewelry and can’t wait to show each other all the best bits.  When something catches my eye, the first thing I do is go over it from top to bottom.  Loupe in hand, I eyeball every inch of it… are there any missing stones?  Does it need prong work?  Do the finishes and textures need touched up?  Is the karat weight of the gold stamped on the metal?

Quality isn’t just something that you see with your eyes, you also feel it with your hands.  After nearly twenty years in the business, when you hold an exceptional piece in your hands, you just sense it.  You know.  Just last week, I picked up this seemingly simple ring.

I was struck by the color of the emerald.  My first thought was “must be a synthetic stone”.  As I brought it up to my eye, my curiosity was peaked.  Under the magnification of my loupe, I could see a couple tiny marks within the bright green gemstone.  After showing it to Jay, he assured me that the emerald is genuine – and it’s a stunner.  The deep green color of the stone combined with the clean clarity grade is everything you want in an emerald.  It weighs approximately 1.01 carat.  Winking from each side of this stone are a pair of round brilliant diamonds that have a total weight of .10 carat.

Looking inside the ring, it all becomes clear.  Right beside the 14K is a crisp maker’s mark… “BaumF”.  This stamp is the signature of a popular Mid Century Modern designer Baumstein and Feder.  The New York firm reigned from the 1940’s-1980’s, they were known for superior quality and spectacular gemstones.  Supreme quality is the mark of our signature series, each piece crafted by a well-known designer.  This beauty is on our site for $3,150.00.  Click on over to our site to see what all the fuss is about.
