Joe’s Special Box Luxury Edition – Volume Three

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and  A Collector’s Things

Luxury…  the latest edition of our “Joe’s Special Box” blog is all about tantalizing and over the top opulence.  The pieces featured are not for the faint of heart, no shrinking violets here!  Each extravagant gem highlighted is for those who live to indulge.

This high karat gold Mughal ring is no exception.  Resembling tiny mirrors, the top of the ring showcases a cluster of five primitive rose cut diamonds.  The largest one in the center is an imperfectly shaped pear cut weighing over 2.25 carats!  Flanking it are an additional four rose cut stones, each one delightfully unrefined, almost archaic.  These diamonds are nestled deep inside a heavy bright gold ring.

Every single surface of this lavish ring is decorated with brightly colored enamel.  Flowers and leaves come to life with bold shades of red, green, white and blue.

Dating as far back as the 16th century, jewelry-making flourished in the Mughal dynasty.  It was highly praised and very important work.  Royals adorned themselves with bejeweled turbans, earrings, nose rings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, arm bands, belt and hip chains, anklets and foot ornamentation.  While we may consider this multi-colored ring to be outrageous or even excessive, it would have been just one small element of an entire jewelry ensemble.  Heavy stonework and embellished enamel are two of the features that set Mughal jewelry apart.  The popularity of these gems saw a resurgence in 2008 and has been highly desirable and sought after ever since.  If this ring strikes your fancy, if you’re enamored of the enamel…  it’s available now for $10,400.00.

The Son and Stars

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Heavenly Things

“I am the light of the world, whomever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12

For more than 2000 years, the stars have been a symbol of hope.  Scripture tells us that three wisemen followed the Star of Bethlehem to Jerusalem to find the baby Jesus, the Messiah.  The birth of Christ is the ultimate promise of hope and salvation…  guided by a star.

This classically styled ring resembles a signet with a low-profile oval center atop a smooth shank.  Made from 10 karat yellow gold, the ring features a heavenly array of five six-pointed stars and a setting sun.  Each six-pointed star is set within a bright blue sky.  This azure horizon is actually created from guilloche enameling, the gold was etched with diagonal lines and then coated with translucent blue enamel, giving the scene depth and dimension.

The sun appears to be rising from the base of the ring.  The sun is a life-giving and life-sustaining celestial body that is often thought to symbolize the Son of God.  It is also believed to represent growth, health and the cycle of life.

Carefully engraved inside the ring are the initials “B. T.” and the date “1912”.  This was the very end of the Art Nouveau era and the beginning of Art Deco.  Now, over 100 years later, the symbolism of this unique ring is just as relevant as it was then…  hope for the future, good health and a new beginning.  Priced at just $475, this talisman is available now.  Call us for additional details.

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 70

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

Occasionally, I find a piece in Joe’s Special Box that makes me go “Hmmm?”  This ring definitely made me stop and take a second look, and then a third.  Finally, I took it out of the little plastic bag it was floating around in to give it more than just a cursory glance.

I slid it onto the middle finger of my left hand… I was surprised at how easily is nestled into that spot and how much I liked the look of it.  The band is wide – really wide (15 mm), reaching nearly knuckle to knuckle.  The expanse of the ring is covered in a rich olive green enamel with an 18 karat yellow gold border on each side.  Featured on the top center are a series of three round symbols, each one filled with opalescent enamel and round brilliant diamond accents.  A linear tag inside names the designer, Nouvelle Bague.

Founded in 1976 by Leopoldo Poli, their designs are deeply rooted in the traditions and craftsmanship of Florence.  Bold patterns showcasing creative color combinations are the heart and soul of the brand.  The hand enameled jewels carry an air of uniqueness that makes them instantly special to the wearer.

A bit of research revealed that this particular band retailed for $4,250.  Although our ring has never been worn (pristine condition!), it is still considered estate.  We are offering this beauty for just $1,950 – a huge savings!  If you’re craving a high end piece of signed jewelry, this one is for you.

“Wearing a piece of jewellery from Nouvelle Bague is simultaneously

communicating an idea of preciousness, strength, and light.”
