Joe’s Special Box – Luxury Edition

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and  A Collector’s Things

Luxury…  the latest edition of our “Joe’s Special Box” blog is all about tantalizing and over the top opulence.  The pieces featured are not for the faint of heart, no shrinking violets here!  Each extravagant gem highlighted is for those who live to indulge.

This high karat gold Mughal ring is no exception.  Resembling tiny mirrors, the top of the ring showcases a cluster of five primitive rose cut diamonds.  The largest one in the center is an imperfectly shaped pear cut weighing over 2.25 carats!  Flanking it are an additional four rose cut stones, each one delightfully unrefined, almost archaic.  These diamonds are nestled deep inside a heavy bright gold ring.

Every single surface of this lavish ring is decorated with brightly colored enamel.  Flowers and leaves come to life with bold shades of red, green, white and blue.

Dating as far back as the 16th century, jewelry-making flourished in the Mughal dynasty.  It was highly praised and very important work.  Royals adorned themselves with bejeweled turbans, earrings, nose rings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, arm bands, belt and hip chains, anklets and foot ornamentation.  While we may consider this multi-colored ring to be outrageous or even excessive, it would have been just one small element of an entire jewelry ensemble.  Heavy stonework and embellished enamel are two of the features that set Mughal jewelry apart.  The popularity of these gems saw a resurgence in 2008 and has been highly desirable and sought after ever since.  If this ring strikes your fancy, if you’re enamored of the enamel…  it’s available now for $10,400.00.
