What’s New – Volume 60

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

Customers are ALWAYS remarking that they couldn’t possibly work at Joden Jewelers.  They would spend their entire paycheck on jewelry!  Then they look at us and wonder aloud how we are able to do it.  Surely being surrounded by these sparkling gems must be too much temptation to resist.  The answer isn’t quite that simple…

  • We work for a living (and haven’t won the lottery), so spending our ENTIRE check on jewelry wouldn’t be wise.
  • Over time, a sense of “jewelry-blindness” takes over.  Anything ordinary simply doesn’t get noticed.
  • What if I buy this now and something I love even more comes in tomorrow??

Writing blogs and partnering with Dana on all things internet-related (our website, Facebook and Instagram) adds another element to the mix.  We can’t just choose pieces we like, but instead must look at everything through your eyes as well.  Dana and I watch for trends, pieces that are rare and signed goods.  We look for jewelry that’s not only aesthetically appealing but also offers great value.

Lately, I’ve been drawn to yellow gold.  I even told Dana that I cannot write about another platinum diamond ring – but those posts are the ones that get the most response.  We strive to keep our content fresh; and because we specialize in antique jewelry, we do see more Edwardian, Art Deco and Mid-Century modern rings than most jewelry stores.  It’s up to us to pick through and save the very best ones for Joden – even if it doesn’t jive with our latest obsessions!

Reminding me of my own engagement ring, this dainty darling caught my eye.  Made near 1940, it’s a little bit Art Deco and a little bit Mid-Century Modern.  Platinum from top to bottom, it centers on a round diamond weighing approximately .53 carat that is set within fishtail style prongs.  Flanking this diamond are a pair of step-cut trapezoids that total .45 carat and then two straight baguettes that offer an additional .18 carat of sparkle.  If you’re keeping track, that’s 1.16 carats overall.  Mint condition and utterly charming, this beauty is priced at just $2,450.00.  If you love a great vintage piece, hop over to joden.com for additional photos and details.

And so, even though I said I couldn’t possibly write about another platinum diamond ring…  clearly, I was mistaken.  Super sweet and priced to sell, this little ring was too good to pass by.  Every single day Dana and I talk about you guys…  our readers, followers, customers and friends.  We love what we do.  We hope that it shows and that you love it too.  ♥

Christmas Green

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Emerald Things

If you ask someone what their favorite piece of jewelry is, 99% of the time, it will be a ring.  Diamond rings, colored stones, shiny gold bands – pick your poison…  we have an unbeatable selection.  These bits of finger bling elicit “oohs”, “aahs”, and countless smiles.  With Christmas right around the corner, we have been VERY busy making sure that each case is brimming with an irresistible selection.

Art Deco (the years between 1915-1935) is the most popular era.  Moving ahead from the lacy and feminine feel of Edwardian jewelry, Art Deco offered a modernist vibe.  Sleek and often geometric designs showcased dazzling diamonds and occasionally a tiny pop of color.  In the past few weeks, we have added more than fifty vintage rings to our Deco display, including this little charmer.

Made from 18-karat white gold, this ring offers a softly rounded silhouette complete with milgrain borders and a touch of engraving.  The center features one round diamond nestled within a hexagon-shaped setting, two additional round diamonds are situated on either side.  These three stones have a combined weight of .65 carat.  Eight more diamonds decorate the outer edges and shoulders of the ring bringing an additional .35 carat of sparkle.

Set between the three main diamonds are four triangular emeralds.  These bright green gems are oriented point to point, adding to the classic geometric feel of this Art Deco dream.  I’m usually a sucker for sapphires…  but recently, I have been drawn to these bright beryl beauties.  Priced at just $1,750.00 – this sweet little ring is in very good condition.  If you’ve been wanting to add some green under your tree, this ring is the perfect choice!

What’s New – Volume 47

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

Last week we featured an absolutely stellar Art Deco inspired ring from modern designer SophiaD.  Today, we’re wow-ing you with an authentic original beauty.  Elongated and elegant, this navette-shaped ring is positively dripping with 1920’s appeal.

Platinum from top to bottom, the outline of this ring resembles a pair of triangles facing opposite directions.  At the center of each one is a bright blue imitation sapphire.  The silhouette of these gems is a five-sided diamond shape.  Cutting techniques advanced during the 1920’s giving way to many new and innovative configurations like these.

Nestled between the two blue stones is a round diamond in a square setting. Six single cut diamonds mark each corner of the two triangles.  These seven diamonds have a combined weight of approximately .30 carat.  Further complementing the 1920’s look are trademark details that include pierced openwork, milgrain beaded edges and deeply etched patterns of engraving.  Measuring just under an inch from end to end, this ring is ideally sized and easy to wear.

A perfect choice, this ring can be fitted to nearly any finger and is the latest addition to our estate department.  It’s on our site for just $1,065.00 – and won’t last long with a price like that.  If you’ve always wanted an authentic Art Deco, this one is simply too good to pass up.  Hop on over to www.joden.com and check it out for yourself.
