Joe’s Special Box Luxury Edition – Volume 14

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and A Collector’s Things

For as long as I have been a part of the team at Joden, Joe has always had the same philosophy.  Most entrepreneurs are constantly brainstorming ways to cultivate clients – they have the “more is better” mentality.  In stark contrast, Joe’s logic is quite the opposite.  He is continually telling us…  “I’m only looking for one guy.”

There’s no question that after nearly fifty-four years in business, Joe has developed his own brand of doing business.  Instead of looking for a thousand customers who can spend one hundred dollars each, he has focused on finding one customer who can spend $100,000.  Some might think his methods are exclusionary.   However, results have shown that while in the pursuit of whales, he has also caught plenty of sharks, swordfish, bass, and even a few minnows.

While building a brand, Joe refused to accept anything less than first-rate.  Whether referring to the staff, the advertising or the inventory – it has been an unending quest for the best.  Dana and I have been on a similar journey with our internet and social media presence.  We’re continually seeking the perfect balance between jaw-dropping, extraordinary deliciousness and smaller yet still desirable (and salable) goods.  That’s where “Joe’s Special Box Luxury Edition” comes in…  we can showcase some of our most luxurious finds in a fun and low-pressure environment.

Today’s selection is truly unique.  Recently, brooches have been coming to the forefront of fashion – and not just for women.  Men have been spotted sporting some truly spectacular brooches.  This duo is an ideal “his and hers” statement… she can wear this killer cluster ring and he can pin the larger complementary brooch to his lapel.

Both pieces are made from a combination of 18-karat white and yellow gold.  Made in Italy in the mid-1950’s or 1960’s, this duo is sensational.  The rich warm hue of the gold highlights the royal purple tone of the cabochon amethyst gemstones.  Numbering seventy-four in total, the smooth surface of each vibrant violet gem shimmers in the light.  Nestled between the circles of amethyst are halos of diamonds.  These thirty-four round diamonds have a combined weight of 4.50 carats!

Look at the size of this pairing – the brooch fills my palm and the ring occupies my finger from knuckle to knuckle.  Whether you share these jewels with someone or keep them for yourself,  you’ll be living large.  Priced at $5,750.00 for the pair, this is exactly the kind of luxury you never knew you needed.

No matter where you fall on the food chain (I rank somewhere near algae), Joden has something that’s perfect for you.  Check out our website or stop by the store and explore the possibilities.

Hot or Not – Volume 10

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Curious Things

By and large, most mainstream modern jewelry follows current trends and styles.  Countless companies are mass-producing thousands of shockingly similar, basic jewels.  To be honest, most of it is pretty.  These are the types of pieces that appeal to almost everyone.  They’re ordinary, but never extraordinary.  At Joden, we have a few things that fit into that category.  However, most of our jewelry is vintage – a fact that makes our inventory interesting and filled with stellar stand-out pieces.  Sprinkled amongst these beauties are a few eccentricities.

Hot or not is a special edition of our weekly blog that is reserved for pieces that leave us wondering.  These are the outliers, the oddities and anomalies.  This week’s selection definitely has me puzzled…  and I can’t help but wonder what you think?

Made entirely of 14-karat white gold, this asymmetrical ring is a bit of an aberration – but maybe in a good way?  The overall shape is a stylized curve.  Forming the base is a ribbed coil of white gold.  Nestled into that curl are six Old European Cut diamonds.  With an average color grade of I and an average clarity grade of SI, these sparklers have a combined weight of .35 carat.

Seated at the top of the diamonds is one pear-shaped emerald.  Shamrock green in color, this gem provides the perfect pop of color.  Weighing approximately .50 carat, the emerald is bright and beautiful.  (On a side note, shown from the side, I can’t help but note that the ring looks a bit like a King Cobra!  Oh my!)

This new ring reminds me a bit of an old favorite (above right) that we shared awhile ago…  the blog was titled “From the First Frost to the Last” and you guys went nuts for it!  The ring sold immediately, much to the dismay of many.  With a similar vibe, we couldn’t resist shining a spotlight on this unusual piece.  Looking at it on my hand, I’m not sure.  I find myself still sitting on the fence.

And I cannot wait to hear what you think.  Priced at $1,175.00, this stand out ring is available on our site now.  Check it out for yourself…  then let us know.  Is this ring hot?  Or not?

Signature Series – Volume 13

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Quality Things

Some of the most coveted pieces of estate jewelry are branded jewels.  In fact, we know several companies that deal exclusively with signed goods – for good reason.  There is no doubt that there are some incredible deals out there.  If you’re a savvy shopper and do your research, you can nab yourself a truly special piece of fine jewelry at a fraction of the original price.  At Joden, we love sharing these incredible buys with you!

Tiffany & Co. is one of the most iconic and sought after names in the second hand market.  Not only are they one of the most popular brands, Tiffany is also one of the most prolific makers of jewelry.  Selling more than $4 billion dollars of jewelry each year, this exemplary manufacturer has produced A LOT of bling.

Although the modern pieces from the current collections have their own charm and certainly a cult-like following, it’s the vintage gems that really speak to me.  My most recent obsession is with all things Mid Century Modern.  I’m crazy about the style and spirit of that era.

This bracelet is a perfect example.  Made from 14-karat yellow gold, this 1950’s bit of wrist candy is delightfully whimsical.  Measuring a generous 7.5 inches, it showcases a floral pattern.  Spanning the center section are three identical flowers, each one is comprised of square-cut garnets.  Nestled between them are two smaller links that also highlight those same square garnets.  Combined, these crimson beauties offer approximately 5.00 carats of sparkle.

It’s the color of those garnets that really gets me…  these gems aren’t brown, or even brownish-red.  Vivacious and lively, these garnets are bright red.  Google tells me that this color is indicative of Pyrope garnet.  Whatever the name – the color is spectacular and best appreciated in person.

Creating the length of the bracelet are a series of gold leaf-like links.  There are ten of these stylized chevrons (like little puffy hearts) on each side, culminating with a spring ring clasp.  The iconic Tiffany signature is artfully fitted onto the back of one link.  I searched the internet for a matching bracelet.  As hard as I tried, I could not locate an exact match.  I found a similar Tiffany piece that was previously listed on 1st Dibbs for $4,130.00.  Our bracelet sold for just $2,850.00!  This incredible piece was out the door before we had an opportunity to post the blog!  Just a quick reminder that pieces do sell quickly – don’t sleep on something you really love.  ♥
