A Dainty Darling

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and a Turquoise Ring

I love tiny treasures.  Miniature marvels.  Dainty darlings.   Although most of the jewelry from the 1800’s was large and over-sized to complement the opulent fashion of the time; in stark contrast, those same years were also filled with lovely little jewels.  Whether you prefer rings, pendants or pins, those wee baubles were every bit as lovely and well-made as their sizable counterparts.

Turquoise, a relatively soft and porous mineral, was one of the most popular gems of the 19th century.  Queen Victoria often opted for the robin’s egg blue hued stone.  She wore it regularly herself and gifted it to others even more, including her own bridal party.  Famed for its powers of protection, turquoise was not just beautiful, it was also used as a talisman.

Usually cut in cabochon styles and polished to a high shine, this original December birthstone is every bit as popular now as it was in the 1800’s.  Here, five oval stones in various shades of blue lay across the finger.  These bright gems are nestled between two rows of European cut diamonds.  These eight diamonds have a combined weight of .25 carat.  Shown on my hand, you can truly appreciate how tiny this ring is.

Currently a size 5, it’s available on our website for just $825.00.  Made in the 1890’s, this ring is an authentic Victorian treasure.

Joden Girl

Baubles and Bling with Unbelievable Pricing

It’s been a minute since we had a featured “Pick of the Week”.  In honor of July 4th, Dana and I decided to bring back this special edition of our blog with a real BANG!  For our new readers, the Pick of the Week is an exclusive issue of the blog where we offer one of our favorite pieces at an irresistible price.

With more than 287 items on our site, it’s easy to see how something might get overlooked.  While each and every gem and jewel on the Joden site is hand-selected, some are bound to attract more attention than others.  This week’s highlighted selection is a great example.

Crafted by Tacori, one of the most sought after diamond ring designers in the country, this platinum beauty speaks with quiet elegance.  The head of the ring stands tall and proud on the high-polished band.  Flaring out gracefully, the center hold a bright 1.76 carat princess cut diamond.  With a color grade of F-G and a clarity grade of VVS2-VS1, this diamond is dazzles within the delicate halo than encompasses it.  Thirty-six round brilliant diamonds form a perfect square around the center stone with an additional .25 carat of sparkle.

Certified by the International Gemological Institute of America, this ring has been valued at $25,615.00…  shown here:

Significantly less than the appraised value, we have had it listed for $20,000.00 – a great price, no doubt.  As promised, we wanted to celebrate the holiday with a real bang.  For a limited time only, this ring is specially priced at just $14,750.00!  That’s over ten thousand dollars less than the appraised value!  If you or someone you know has been searching for a truly special ring – this is it.  Don’t hesitate – this steal of a deal will not last long.

Follow Your Heart

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Meaningful Things

Falling in love with this sweet little ring was as easy as one, two, three.  Featuring the bright color combination of a deep hypnotic blue and a cheerful canary yellow, this three-stone ring is simply charming.  I am continually surprised by my ever-changing taste in jewelry.   I’ve never been a fan of heart jewelry,  I have even blogged about it a time or two.  Remember this showstopping pendant?  Or perhaps this lovely repoussé bracelet?  To date, I have written 518 blogs; a mere 8 of them have featured a piece of heart jewelry.  That factors out to a scant 1.5%.  The numbers alone speak for themselves – when it comes to heart-themed jewelry, I would rather leave it than take it.

Preferences are constantly evolving…  often based on exposure to different people, places and cultures.  For reasons unbeknownst to me, my own heart has softened in regard to romantically themed jewelry.  This ring is a perfect example.  We’ve had it for quite a while.  I’ve glanced at it dozens of times with zero reaction.  Nothing.  Not even a tiny flutter.  Then just last week as I was digging for something fresh to blog about, it caught my eye.

I took it out of the little plastic bag and slid it on my ring finger.  Instantly, I was smitten.  For a three-stone ring, it’s dainty – delicate even.  A trio of heart-shaped stones line up side by side.  Set in 18-karat yellow gold, each stone is held with a protective v-shaped prong at the tip and an additional prong on each curve.  The center stone is a vivid blue sapphire that weighs approximately .85 carat.  It’s flanked by a glistening pair of natural fancy yellow diamonds that have a combined weight of 1.00 carat.

Three-stone rings often symbolize the past, present and future of a relationship.  That style usually features one larger stone in the center with two smaller ones on the sides.  Here, the trio of stones are similarly sized – this design is sometimes called a triplet ring and can represent friendship, love and fidelity.  Moderately priced at just $3,650.00 – the ring is available on our website.  Hop on over for more photos and additional details and remember to follow your heart…  it might lead you to something unexpectedly amazing!
