Flowers and Friends

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Happy Things

“Make new friends, but keep the old.  One is silver and the other is gold.”

Working retail is a unique experience.  We are privileged to play a small part in some of the most momentous milestones in life.  So many occasions are celebrated with jewelry.  During the process of selecting the perfect piece, we bond with our clients.  Relationships are formed; friendships are made.  We have rejoiced over marriages, anniversaries, promotions, babies and birthdays.  And we have held hands and shared tears over broken engagements, divorces and the loss of a loved one.

Sometimes, customers just brighten your day.  They bring a smile to your face and can even renew your faith in humanity with a tiny act of kindness.  Our customers spoil us with heartfelt thank you notes of appreciation, homemade treats, and by telling everyone they know about this cool jewelry store they love.  At Christmastime, my friend (who started out as a customer) brought me a gift – the cutest pair of personalized tea towels.  I couldn’t resist the opportunity to showcase them…  they are the ideal background for this daisy duo.

If you’re a regular reader, you know that daisies are my absolute favorite flower.  My wedding band is a custom-made chain of diamond-trimmed daisies in platinum and gold.  So, it will come as no surprise that I am completely enchanted by this pin and matching earrings.  14 karat gold, in both rose and yellow shades combine with platinum to create these bright and cheerful jewels.  The brooch is bold, measuring over two inches from the tip of the petal to the end of the stem while the earrings are much smaller.  They’re about the size (and color) of a new penny.  Each of the eight petals are ribbed, giving a more realistic feel to these polished posies.

Nestled into the heart of each flower is a platinum pavé center.  A series of single cut diamonds add sparkle and shine.  There are forty diamonds in all for a combined total of approximately 1.00 carat.

These beauties radiate happiness, just like my friend.  Made in the 1940’s in the heart of the Retro period, they’re sold as a matched suite for just $2,250.00.  Every time you pin this brooch to your collar or clip the earrings onto your lobe, you’ll smile.  And each time I reach for one of my towels, I will smile and think of my friend.

What’s New – Volume 12

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and The Latest Things

We noticed a new trend over the holidays in 2021 – it was all about color.  Customer after customer was searching for a piece offering bright hues of every shade.  There was one overwhelming choice – and it came as a surprise to all of us…  citrine.  Never before have we sold so many of these bold orange-y gems.

If you’re craving a cool citrine ring – this post is for you.  Ultra modern and made from 18 karat yellow gold, this piece looks great on any finger (although, I am loving it on my index finger).  The center stone is channel set between a pair of diamond-accented bars.  The stone is a square brilliant cut that weighs approximately 3.00 carats and features the most glorious shade of orange.   It glows like the sun.

Six additional gemstones are expertly fit into the shoulders of the ring.  Custom cut and perfectly matched, these stones have a combined weight of 2.00 carats.  Ten round brilliant diamonds flank the center stone, adding a hint (.15 carat) of colorless sparkle.  Reminding me of a July sunset on the beach, this ring is available now for just $1,650.00.

Golden Brown Glow

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Baroque Things

Occasionally, the treasures in our estate department can more accurately be described as pre-owned. Not belonging to any particular period, nor being terribly old…  these modern marvels can often be scored at a great price.  This is just one of the advantages of estate jewelry.

This week’s piece is one of those things that we’ve had for a bit.  I’ve passed it over time and again.  I’m not usually a fan of pearls, so it was easy for me to keep overlooking the quiet beauty of this necklace.  Last week, something about it made me stop.  As I extracted it from the hazy rumpled plastic bag, I began to see the true potential.  After a closer examination of the fine details, I was certain that a necklace of this quality had to be signed.  There had to be a maker’s mark….

Turns out – I was right!  On the back side of one golden hued pearl is this small round disk, carefully engraved “Yvel 750”.  Much as I hate to admit it, I hadn’t heard of Yvel.  Thankfully I have Google at my fingertips.  Imagine my surprise to discover the wonders of this unique designer.  I love this line from their site… “Created by nature, designed by Yvel”.  In their own words, “Yvel is an international luxury jewelry brand recognized worldwide for its distinctive creations featuring nature’s most treasured resources.”

Though I was unable to locate our exact necklace, based on the warm earthy tone of each oversized pearl, I’m sure this find must have been part of the Golden Brown Collection.  Twenty inches of textured 18 karat yellow gold oval links and eleven South Sea baroque pearls are further accented by four hundred and sixty-two cinnamon colored diamonds.  These sparkling gems have a combined weight of 5.00 carats.

These pearls are unusual…  they are baroque South Sea.  The term “baroque” refers to the unsymmetrical shape of the pearl.  They are appreciated for their one-of-a-kind silhouette.  South Sea pearls are among the largest harvested pearls in the world.  Grown inside the pinctada maxima oyster in the waters between the northern coast of Australia and the southern coast of China, these gems are known for their large size.  These particular pearls are considered second generation, meaning they take between 7-10 years to culture and measure between 14-18mm.  The color of the pearl is determined by the type of oyster in which it has grown; as it forms, it acquires the the same color as the lining of the oyster.  Golden toned pearls like these come from the area around Indonesia and the Philippines.

Winners of multiple awards, Yvel was founded in 1986.  The Golden Brown Collection was inspired by the natural beauty of the golden saltwater gem.  “When combined with Yvel’s contemporary jewelry designs, something magical happens and the enchantment begins.”

Join the Yvel fan club by claiming this necklace for yourself.  Available now for $9,500.00.
