A Revival

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Celebratory Things

These are unprecedented, crazy, and trying times.  Of that there is  no doubt.  Here, in Grove City, we are under state mandated shutdown.  As I was scrolling through Facebook, a friend had posted this quote from Kitty O’Meara:

“And the people stayed home.  And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still.  And listened more deeply.  Some meditated, some prayed, some danced.  Some met their shadows.

And the people began to think differently.  And the people healed.  And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.

And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, and they had been healed.”

These words settled into my soul like a prayer.  We will persevere.  And when we come back to work, and join together again with friends and loved ones, what a reunion that will be…  a revival like no other.

There is no more fitting talisman for these days than the scarab beetle.  This ancient symbol, resembling the dung beetle, was revered by Egyptians.  This creature was drawn on walls and tombs, worn on necklaces and bracelets.  It is a symbol of immortality and resurrection…  transformation and protection.

These Egyptian Revival earrings are made from a bright 18 karat yellow gold and feature a pair of scarab beetles, carved from a resplendent Lapis Lazuli.  This brilliant blue stone is speckled throughout with tiny flecks of gold.  Seated at the North, South, East, and Western tips are clusters of three rose cut diamonds.  Spreading out like the rays of the sun, these diamonds add sparkle and warmth to the earrings, priced at $2,650.00.

We look forward to the day when we will open the front doors and resume our normal lives again.  Until then, please continue to join us twice a week for the blog and each day on Facebook and Instagram.  We hope to provide a tiny distraction and a bit of joy.

The Golden Years

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Celebratory Things

Today, not many kids are turning down scholarships – but in 1968, that was exactly what Joe Murawski did.  Fresh out of high school, he turned down a football scholarship, jumped in his car and drove to Los Angeles.  His father was a master bench jeweler and had been mentoring Joe since he was just a boy.  Call it intuition or divine intervention, Joe made it to California and promptly enrolled at the Gemological Institute of America where he would earn the most coveted degree in the jewelry industry – Graduate Gemologist.

Fast forward to Friday the 13th, 1970…  Carlisle T. Hall was on the radio announcing the opening of a new store in Grove City.  “Make Friday the 13th your lucky day at Joden Jewelers!” Two young men (Joe + Den = Joden) partnered to start the store.  So, for those of you who have always wondered how the store got its name – now you know!  Joe still tells stories of the glory days.  And as they say, the rest is history…

Sell My Jewelry

Denny left the business early on, and Joe continued on his own.  Until 1995 when his son Jay came on board; Jay would eventually make his own journey to California to earn the same degree his father earned more than twenty-five years before.  Joe has said “I still like coming to work every day.  My son Jay has made it even better.  He is the best person I’ve ever known and has played an integral role in the development of our company.”

While this family-owned and operated business has become a worldwide source of the finest antique, estate and modern jewelry – they still believe in small-town values and old-fashioned customer service.  The success of the business stems from the overwhelming support of the community and customers like you.  And so, today, while we celebrate our golden anniversary, fifty years of success…  our hat is off to you.  We thank our customers, our family, and our friends.  Without you, none of this would have been possible.

If you’re in the area, we will be having a small open house today.  We invite you to join us for this momentous occasion.  Raise a glass with Joe and Jay!  If you can’t join us…  give us a call or send us a text.  We’d love to hear from you!

“You can go to a museum and look, or come to Joden and celebrate!”

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 105

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

As a purveyor of fine antique and estate jewelry, we sell a myriad of vintage engagement rings.  There have been a few Victorian pieces, but there’s a definite sweet spot for Edwardian and Art Deco beauties.  Our clients can’t seem to resist the fine details…  the hand-engraved patterns, the pierced designs, all accented by tiny diamond trim.  Each one is a perfect storm of loveliness.  Even my own engagement ring is an authentic original from the 1920’s.

As enamored as I am of these diamond-centered gems, my heart belongs to another… the other half, the counterpart.  I am a sucker for old wedding bands.  This sweet little number from Joe’s Special Box is currently hovering at the top of my list.  Made in the 1950’s, this two tone charmer is just TOO good!

The entire framework and shank of the ring are made from 14 karat yellow gold.  Artfully arranged across the top is the game-changer…  a stylized white gold bow.  The loops and tails of the bow curve out from the center knot, each one featuring single-cut diamonds, six in total for a combined weight of .10 carat.  This hint of sparkle is perfect.

Available on our website, it’s a steal for just $425.  Wear it alone, pair it with an engagement ring, or stack it tall with all your other favs.  Click the photos to check it out now!
