Pick of the Week – Volume Five

Joden Girl

Baubles and Bling with Unbelievable Pricing

At Joden, we have a bit of everything…  antique, estate, and modern.  You may be wondering what the difference is between each of these categories.  For a piece of jewelry to be considered “antique”, it has to be over one hundred years old.  Modern jewelry is pristine and new – either hand-crafted in our expert shop or purchased direct from  the manufacturer.  Estate jewelry is everything in between…  another way to describe it would be “pre-owned”.  It can be a bit confusing – but we’re here to answer all your questions.

Much of our inventory at Joden is estate – filled with everything from Art Deco, Retro and Mid-Century Modern to pre-owned beauties priced to sell.  That’s what we have today…  a unique find at a price you can’t resist.  Allow me to introduce you to the “Pick of the Week”!

Everything about this bridal set is non-traditional and yet classic at the same time.  Both the engagement ring and contoured wedding band are crafted from a silvery white metal that doesn’t tarnish and never needs to be rhodium plated.  You are probably thinking platinum, however these beauties are made from palladium!

Next, let’s talk about those gemstones!  The center is an octagonal modified brilliant blue sapphire.  This subtle stunner packs quite a punch.  Certified by the Gemological Institute of America, the sapphire is unheated – a rare quality that greatly increases the value of this cerulean stone.  In the United States, diamond is widely accepted as THE engagement stone of choice, however, in the United Kingdom…  sapphire is the coveted favorite.  This particular stone weighs 1.44 carats and brings an element of unexpected allure to this bridal set.

Another unique anomaly about this ring are those side stones.  Due to their vibrant colorless nature, you’re probably guessing that they’re diamonds.  However, you would be mistaken.  This matched pair of sparklers are actually white sapphires!  I adore each and every uncommon element of these rings.  Originally priced at $6,300 – our Pick of the Week is now available for only $3,750.00!!!  If you’re in the market for an exclusive engagement ring for your one-and-only…  this is it!

The Golden Years

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Celebratory Things

Today, not many kids are turning down scholarships – but in 1968, that was exactly what Joe Murawski did.  Fresh out of high school, he turned down a football scholarship, jumped in his car and drove to Los Angeles.  His father was a master bench jeweler and had been mentoring Joe since he was just a boy.  Call it intuition or divine intervention, Joe made it to California and promptly enrolled at the Gemological Institute of America where he would earn the most coveted degree in the jewelry industry – Graduate Gemologist.

Fast forward to Friday the 13th, 1970…  Carlisle T. Hall was on the radio announcing the opening of a new store in Grove City.  “Make Friday the 13th your lucky day at Joden Jewelers!” Two young men (Joe + Den = Joden) partnered to start the store.  So, for those of you who have always wondered how the store got its name – now you know!  Joe still tells stories of the glory days.  And as they say, the rest is history…

Denny left the business early on, and Joe continued on his own.  Until 1995 when his son Jay came on board; Jay would eventually make his own journey to California to earn the same degree his father earned more than twenty-five years before.  Joe has said “I still like coming to work every day.  My son Jay has made it even better.  He is the best person I’ve ever known and has played an integral role in the development of our company.”

While this family-owned and operated business has become a worldwide source of the finest antique, estate and modern jewelry – they still believe in small-town values and old-fashioned customer service.  The success of the business stems from the overwhelming support of the community and customers like you.  And so, today, while we celebrate our golden anniversary, fifty years of success…  our hat is off to you.  We thank our customers, our family, and our friends.  Without you, none of this would have been possible.

If you’re in the area, we will be having a small open house today.  We invite you to join us for this momentous occasion.  Raise a glass with Joe and Jay!  If you can’t join us…  give us a call or send us a text.  We’d love to hear from you!

Perfect Pair

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and Art Deco Things

The end of WWI in 1918 brought with it an air of post-war enthusiasm.  Economic prosperity resulted in opulence for every day life.  Nothing, it seemed, was exempt.  Even a simple trip to town was an opportunity to add a bit of glitz.  Women broke away from the corsets and gowns of the Victorian age in favor of drop-waisted numbers with raised hem lines and a loose fit. “Too much” was a foreign concept…  there were accessories for your accessories!  Diamond brooches were pinned to hats, belts, and shoes.  “Over the top” became the norm.

Artistic freedom paved the way for what was perhaps the greatest period in jewelry history…  Art Deco!  The 1920’s and 30’s was a veritable explosion of innovation.

This carved jadeite pendant is the epitome of 1920’s glam.  A lustrous specimen of apple green jade has been shaped, pierced, and polished to a shine.  It is suspended from a woven black cord using a trio of platinum diamond accented trim.  Over thirty inches long, the jade pendant rests below the bust line – an ideal length for the simplistic dresses worn by flappers.  This is perhaps the most rare type of jadeite, natural with no indication of impregnation (a treatment commonly used to improve the color of jade).  Priced at $5,500 and certified by the Gemological Institute of America, this gem is a real showstopper.

Pair it with this ring for the ultimate in Art Deco elegance.  Crafted entirely of platinum, this ring centers on a beautifully marbled cushion shaped piece of jadeite.  A halo of thirty-eight rose cut diamonds encircle the center, bringing an element of sparkle.  The northern and southern tips of the piece are further accentuated by an arch of vivid red fancy cut rubies.  Renowned jewelry blogger Danielle Miele has dubbed it her “most favorite ring that Joden currently has in stock”.  Priced at $4,750.00 this ring is just too good to miss.

With the holidays just around the corner, it’s never too early to do a little shopping whether it’s for yourself or someone else.  Art Deco jewels from Joden are sure to be at the top of every girl’s list!
