Funky Fresh

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Fun Things

All the choices you make from the car that you drive to the jewelry that you wear is an opportunity to showcase your personality…  or even just your mood of the day.  And though you may not be able to change up your vehicle every day, you can mix-up your accessories.  It’s easy to get in a rut and wear the same pieces day after day.  I am definitely guilty of that – somehow, I always seem to be running late.  As I’m dashing out the door, I scoop up the jewels I wore yesterday and throw them on while driving to work.  Because of that, I have a few pieces that haven’t been in the rotation recently.

On the days that I’m up and at ’em early, I take time to choose the jewelry that feels good and suits my mood.  A ring like this is perfect for those days when you’re feeling particularly funky.  It’s unexpected, unique and will undoubtedly draw some attention.

This 1970’s stunner is made from 14-karat white gold.   The right side of the ring has a small rollercoaster hill – it rides up and then back down to meet the base of the center stone.  There are a series of six straight baguette diamonds set vertically; each one is held in place by two prongs.  The left shoulder of the ring ramps up the side of the center beginning with two straight baguette diamonds.  Combined, these eight step-cut diamonds have a total weight of .50 carat.

An explosion of round diamonds sits at the top left corner of the center.  In total there are eight round diamonds that have a combined weight of .75 carat.  These sixteen diamonds create a super sparkly and oh-so-fun frame for the center stone.  Exhibiting a breathtaking peachy-pink hue, this oval shaped Imperial Topaz makes a bold statement at 7.50 carats.

On the hand, it’s perfect!  It’s eye-catching and engaging.  This is the kind of ring that pairs perfectly with high spirits, shenanigans and sunshine.  Or, if you’re feeling low – it’s just the thing to perk you up.  If you’ve been searching for a statement piece to add color and personality to your jewelry wardrobe, then today is your lucky day.  This Mid-Century Modern ring is the latest and the greatest bit of bling on our site.  It’s moderately priced at $4,250.00 – and it’s available now.

Joe’s Special Box Luxury Edition – Volume 10

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and A Collector’s Things

With new inventory pouring through the door every day, it’s easy to overlook older merchandise.  Having been open for more than fifty-three years, we have A LOT of jewelry.  Some of it has been with us for a long time, years even.  These jewels are like old friends.

Sometimes we have to look at our old friends in a new light to remember why we love them so much.  That very idea is how the Pick of the Week edition of this blog was born.  We choose an item that has been on our site for a long time and offer it with new, updated pricing.  Not only is this week’s selection from Joe’s Special Box – it’s also the latest Pick of the Week.

I love a good asymmetrical ring – it’s unexpected and a little bit quirky.  Made in the 1950’s, this mounting is 14-karat white gold.  It has been polished to a pristine shine.  Ten round brilliant diamonds form a crescent moon around the center.  Offering .55 carat of sparkle, these gems are near colorless with an average clarity grade of VS1-2.

One shoulder curls up sharply.  The curlicue end is set with a series of five straight baguette cut diamonds that offer an additional .10 carat of bling.  When viewed from the side, my absolute favorite detail of the ring appears. Showcased within the gallery work is a lovely leaf element.  Four graduated fronds add a touch of whimsy to this Mid Century beauty.

Nestled into the unconventional halo is one Old European Cut diamond.  It measures 6.55 – 6.57 x 3.86mm and weighs approximately 1.10 carats.  The color grade of the center stone is G-H and the clarity grade is VVS2-VS1 – it’s bright and brilliant.  It is also quite a bit older than the ring itself.  This diamond was cut in the early 1900’s while the mounting wasn’t created until the 1950’s.  There are so many possible explanations – perhaps it was a remount, or a marriage of two separate pieces.  It could simply be because the diamond fit perfectly into the ring.  While we won’t ever know how or why these two entities came together, we do know that they make a uniquely beautiful creation.

Certified by the International Gemological Institute of America, the ring has a replacement value of $14,050.00.  It has been on our site for $11,250.00.  Today, we are re-introducing this Mid Century dreamboat at the significantly reduced price of just $9,450.00!  If you’re as enchanted as we are, don’t hesitate.  At this price, it won’t last long.

What’s New – Volume 60

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

Customers are ALWAYS remarking that they couldn’t possibly work at Joden Jewelers.  They would spend their entire paycheck on jewelry!  Then they look at us and wonder aloud how we are able to do it.  Surely being surrounded by these sparkling gems must be too much temptation to resist.  The answer isn’t quite that simple…

  • We work for a living (and haven’t won the lottery), so spending our ENTIRE check on jewelry wouldn’t be wise.
  • Over time, a sense of “jewelry-blindness” takes over.  Anything ordinary simply doesn’t get noticed.
  • What if I buy this now and something I love even more comes in tomorrow??

Writing blogs and partnering with Dana on all things internet-related (our website, Facebook and Instagram) adds another element to the mix.  We can’t just choose pieces we like, but instead must look at everything through your eyes as well.  Dana and I watch for trends, pieces that are rare and signed goods.  We look for jewelry that’s not only aesthetically appealing but also offers great value.

Lately, I’ve been drawn to yellow gold.  I even told Dana that I cannot write about another platinum diamond ring – but those posts are the ones that get the most response.  We strive to keep our content fresh; and because we specialize in antique jewelry, we do see more Edwardian, Art Deco and Mid-Century modern rings than most jewelry stores.  It’s up to us to pick through and save the very best ones for Joden – even if it doesn’t jive with our latest obsessions!

Reminding me of my own engagement ring, this dainty darling caught my eye.  Made near 1940, it’s a little bit Art Deco and a little bit Mid-Century Modern.  Platinum from top to bottom, it centers on a round diamond weighing approximately .53 carat that is set within fishtail style prongs.  Flanking this diamond are a pair of step-cut trapezoids that total .45 carat and then two straight baguettes that offer an additional .18 carat of sparkle.  If you’re keeping track, that’s 1.16 carats overall.  Mint condition and utterly charming, this beauty is priced at just $2,450.00.  If you love a great vintage piece, hop over to joden.com for additional photos and details.

And so, even though I said I couldn’t possibly write about another platinum diamond ring…  clearly, I was mistaken.  Super sweet and priced to sell, this little ring was too good to pass by.  Every single day Dana and I talk about you guys…  our readers, followers, customers and friends.  We love what we do.  We hope that it shows and that you love it too.  ♥
