Joe’s Special Box – Volume 142

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

When I showed this ring to Jay, he wrinkled up his nose and made a face.  Then I told him that I got it from Joe’s Special Box and that it was going to be a featured blog piece.  Another nose crinkle and an “Ugh!” later and I haven’t changed my mind.  Jay doesn’t like it AT ALL.  Joe likes it so much that he squirrelled it away in his office.  I’m somewhere in between – there’s something about it.

Made in a band style, this three-row ring is crafted from 18-karat white gold.  A somewhat unusual patina has developed on the gold, giving it a dark appearance around the diamonds and a slight yellowish cast to the metal.  This can easily be removed with a visit to our shop.  In the hands of an expert, a fine polish and rhodium plating could have this ring looking like new.  If you’re wondering why we haven’t done that already, the answer is simple.  I love patina.  It’s character that develops over time, usually years.  Though it can be removed in a moment, there’s no going back.  It can’t be replaced.  In the vintage jewelry world, alterations and cleaning must be carefully considered.

Five round cabochon jadeite gems span the center.  Two rows of eight single-cut diamonds provide a border for those bright green stones with one row on each side.  Offering a combined weight of .25 carat, they add a hint of sparkle to this unusual band.  It would make a great non-traditional wedding band or simply a fun right-hand ring.  Style is subjective; it’s unexpected and even controversial.  Perhaps you are team Jay and give this ring a definite thumbs down; maybe you side with Joe and think it’s special and worthy of saving.  Or maybe you’re like me and find yourself sitting on the fence.  With a price of just $500, there’s no doubt that it will bring a pop of color to your life.

Pick of the Week – Volume 58

Joden Girl

Baubles and Bling with Unbelievable Pricing

I first introduced this ring four years ago in the 73rd edition of “Joe’s Special Box“.  I can’t believe that it’s still here.  I love it just as much now as I did then for all of the same reasons…

  • It’s constructed entirely of platinum, the queen of the white metals (in my opinion).  It ages with a lovely patina that softens the overall look, but can be polished to a pristine shine at any time.
  • The ring is made in the shape of a flower, offering an oval-shaped spray of sixteen diamond set petals.  Those on the northern and southern tips of the flower are set with three diamonds each while those on the east and west sides are set with just two Old Mind Cut diamonds each.  In total, these diamonds have a combined weight of approximately 1.00 carat.
  • Nestled in the middle of the blossom is one round brilliant diamond.  Although it may not be the original center stone, it’s perfect.  Weighing approximately .80 carat, it’s a true beauty.

I’m a sucker for a flower ring, and this is no exception.  The petals measure an impressive 16mm from very top to the bottom tip while the triple-wire shank is delicate.  Together, it’s an unbeatable combination, managing to be visually striking and yet dainty at the same time.  I love the softly scalloped edge created by the outline of the petals.  Though it’s a small detail, it adds to the ambiance of the ring.  I can’t help but wonder – “Why is this ring still here?”

Both times Dana has photographed it, she truly captured the magic of the ring.  The only reason I can think for why this lovely creation hasn’t sold would be the price…  so, we decided to do something about that!  Originally priced at $4400.00 (Not a bad price, I’d like to add), this unique find has a new and unbelievable price.  It’s the featured Pick of the Week, and you can find it on our site for just $3,450.00!  And remember, we also offer six-month layaway and interest-free financing!  There are no excuses now – this ring is waiting for you.  ♥

Hot or Not – Volume Nine

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Curious Things

This week we have selected a ring that has been cause for debate.  It’s been on display in the store, added to the case by one and then quickly taken back out by another. It’s been schlepped from here to there, yet always comes back.  Not unlike Cinderella’s slipper, it just hasn’t found its perfect match.

Made from 13.1 dwt of 18-karat white gold, this ring offers a solid presence.  Featured at the top of a high-polished wide shank is a u-shaped curl that measures an inch in length.  Sitting vertically and running parallel with the finger, this architectural structure is encrusted with 250 natural blue sapphires.  These round beauties range in hue from a soft cerulean to a deep cobalt, creating a subtle ombré feel.  These glittering gems reach from knuckle to knuckle with 6.00 carats of scintillating sparkle.

Even the outermost edges of this curvaceous conundrum are covered with corundum.  Ultra-modern and stylishly sleek, our ring presents an unusual look that waffles somewhere between wearable art and weaponry.  Weighing over half an ounce and shimmering with sapphires, there’s no question about the intrinsic value of the piece.  The real question is about its aesthetic appeal.

The finger size is relatively small, it fits perfectly on the ring finger of my right hand.  Inside the shank, the metal is smooth and shiny making it comfortable to wear.  With so much working in its favor, it must be beautiful…  but is it?  I appreciate the quality of the materials and the craftsmanship that created the ring, and yet, I’m torn.  Is it hot, or not?

This ring has been part of our inventory for years, just waiting for its soulmate.  If that’s you, stop in or give us a call.  It’s available in our showroom for just $2200.00.
