Pick of the Week – Volume 50

Joden Girl

Baubles and Bling with Unbelievable Pricing

One of the most common questions we hear is “Do you do custom work?”  And as you may have imagined, the answer (of course) is “Yes.”  But for me, I often find myself giving a hesitant response rather than a resounding one.  I think that customers can have a skewed perception of custom creations.  Designing a piece from scratch including every twist, turn and stone requires tremendous skill and vision.  In addition, the costs can be quite high.

With more than fifty years of experience, Joe has an unmatched eye for re-imagining a piece or building something new and inventive from square one.  Trained by his father, he spent over half of his career at the bench.  To combine those finely honed skills with a Graduate Gemologist degree provides critical knowledge of both the “rocks and metal” aspects of fine custom jewelry.  Joe can often be found arranging and rearranging gemstones and diamonds in artful patterns, constantly striving to find the perfect position…  waiting for the magic to happen.

The staff at Joden boasts two world-class bench jewelers.  Now, it is their expert hands that bring Joe’s visions to reality.  Occasionally, we utilize other sources for precise talents like stone cutting and polishing, metal casting and molding.  The jewelry world is fairly small.  The world of handmade custom jewelry is much much smaller.

The uniqueness of this ring does not reside in the style but rather in the rarity of the center stone.  The elongated shape of this Precious Topaz is elegant and breathtakingly beautiful.  Each line of this emerald cut stone is crisp and clean.  Displaying the peachy hue of an expensive champagne, this collectible gem weighs 12.50 carats.  It was Joe’s keen eye that conceived this simple modernistic ring.  The three stone concept is not new, but usually, the size differentiation between the center and the side stones is slight.  Here, the trillion diamonds measure just one third of the length of the topaz.  With a combined weight of 1.23 carats, these diamonds are truly just an accent to the star center stone.

This custom piece has been showcased on our site for quite awhile.  It has been admired and applauded but has yet to find a forever home.  This week, this beauty has been selected as a Pick of the Week.  Previously priced at $8,750.00, we are now offering it for the new and unbelievable price of $6,250.00.  If you are a seeker the unusual and rare, this ring is an outstanding statement piece.  Click the photos and check it out on our site now.

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 135

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

Not every treasure at Joden is antique.  In fact, many of my favorite pieces are estate.  In the simplest of terms, estate means that something is pre-owned.  I prefer to think of it as “pre-loved”.  As hard as it is to imagine, pieces from the 1980’s are already almost 40 years old.

This sweet little ring from Joe’s Special Box is a perfect choice for a first ring.  Centering on three diagonal lines, the open work design of the ring is lovely.  Made of 14 karat yellow gold, it holds five stones.  Three of these gems are round brilliant diamonds that have a total weight of just .10 carat.  A pair of round opals flank the center diamond, one above and one below.  Opal is one of the most popular gemstones at Joden, and it’s the birthstone for October!  Customers are drawn to the unique multi-colored fire that lives inside each one.  Much like snowflakes, no two are exactly the same.

This dainty darling is comfortable and easy to wear.  It slides over the knuckle with ease, sitting pretty at the base of the finger.   A simple turn of the hand showcases the subtle sparkle of the diamonds as well as the pops of pink and green flashing from both opals.  Priced at just $365.00, this ring is scheduled to be a new arrival on our website.  Be sure to check our site later this week for additional details.

Classic Coral

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Deep Sea Things

What is that attracts you to a particular gemstone?  Is it the perfectly transparent and colorless brilliance of a diamond that pulls you in?  Or perhaps its the luminous azure depths of a sapphire that tickle your fancy?  While each faceted gemstone has legions of fans, there is another stone that is attracting sophisticated clients with it’s quiet appeal.  Drawn to the unusual and unique – these buyers have found a new favorite in the orange-red tone of coral.

Whether it be sculpted into softly rounded cabochons or carved into delicate roses, the vintage charm of coral jewelry from the 1970’s has reached a new peak in popularity.  This organic gem has an allure all it’s own, but when combined with the Mid Century Modern vintage vibe – coral is quite compelling.  Whether it be the soft pale shades of angel skin or the deep red branches of the raw form, it’s a very wearable gem.  Classy and chic, coral is refined without being overdone.

These earrings are practically perfect in every way.  They feature a strong framework made from 18 karat yellow gold.  It cradles three beautifully sculpted coral petals that create a lifelike flower.  Nestled into the heart of the blossom is a small round pistil pavé set with round brilliant diamonds.  There are fourteen diamonds in all with a combined weight of .50 carat.  Bright and sparkling, they provide a dazzling contrast to the glossy surface of the coral.  The posts of these earrings fold away, enabling them to be worn on pierced or non-pierced ears, a clever innovation that I love.

Many of the natural coral reefs have been over-harvested and damaged by pollution – some varieties are now extinct.  This has added to the attraction of older pieces.  The rarity of the material has increased the collectability of jewelry like this.  Moderately priced at $2,900.00 – these stylish earrings will add Mid Century flair and chic sophistication to any wardrobe.
