Joe’s Special Box – Volume 127

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

After writing over 400 blogs (409 to be exact, but who’s counting?), it can be challenging to turn up something new to share.  It’s a never-ending quest for fresh styles and quirky finds.  As much as I love chatting about old-world techniques, patterns of enameling and the fine art of micro mosaic – sometimes it’s a struggle.  The words won’t flow – occasionally making me wonder what inspired me choose a particular piece in the first place.

The “Joe’s Special Box” blogs present yet another obstacle…  my aesthetic has to jive with someone else’s.  I browse through a couple of boxes filled with pieces hand-selected by Joe, searching for a perfect little bauble that speaks to me.  Sometimes it’s a gemstone that strikes my fancy, sometimes it’s the most minuscule detail…  a tiny flower, a beaded milgrain edge.  And sometimes, it’s the simple overwhelming beauty that makes me catch my breath.  These lovely Victorian earrings stopped me in my tracks.  An enchanting pair of flowers dangle upside down, offering an unusually charming perspective.  With small round cabochon opal centers, these flowers are ripe with detail…  fluted and beaded settings, articulated petals and engraved stems and leaves.  Fourteen karat gold from top to bottom, these earrings somehow manage to be understated and absolutely dazzling at the same time.  Priced at $1700 – they definitely do not disappoint.

Help a girl out…  if there’s something you’d like to see or if there’s a piece you’re dying to know more about – drop me a line (carrie@joden.com).  Inspiration comes in the most unexpected places…  can’t wait to see what inspires each of you.

Birthstone Bling

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and January Things

Sliding in on the last day of the month with some birthstone bling…  circa 1860.  Imagine looking this fantastic when you’re over one hundred years old!  These beauties are made up of sixty Pyrope Garnets; deep fiery red stones that have been mined in Bohemia since the Middle Ages.

Now known as Czechoslovakia (formerly Bohemia), this region began cutting the stones and crafting jewelry with great frequency in the 16th century.  These rich warm stones were most often clustered together in a pavé style, with almost no metal to be seen.  Silver, gold-filled, and low karat gold were popular choices for these pieces as it kept the cost down, making these sparkling jewels affordable for a broad audience.  By the mid to late 1800’s, the Bohemian style had become all the rage.  Everyone was wearing this signature look.

Our earrings are wonderfully large, measuring over one inch both in length and width.  Each centers on a cabochon oval garnet that is surrounded by twenty-nine additional rose cut garnets set in a double halo style.  The clusters are suspended from a pair of golden wires (they have been replaced to maintain integrity and wear-ability) allowing the top of the gemstones to skim the bottom of the earlobe.  Because there are no diamonds, these earrings can be dressed up or worn casually.  They are in very good antique condition and are available for just $1,350.00.

If the Boho style speaks to you, or if you are crazy over Victorian jewelry…  you need to get to Joden where the extraordinary selection boasts something for everyone, including you.

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 72

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

Absolutely adorable…  what more accurate description could there be for these Victorian earrings?  They’re quite small, barely skimming the bottom of the earlobe.  Created from a rosy 14 karat gold and accented with a single cabochon opal, these earrings never made the showroom floor.  Joe scooped them up and tucked them into his special box.  I love how simple the design is…  just a tiny square, set on edge.  A series of eight delicate beads adorn each corner and the space between.

Look at this clever catch…  a small triangular loop hinges up to snag the bottom of the wire, securing it in the ear.  Sometimes it really is the little things that make the world go round.  These perfectly petite gems are available now for just $150.  Call us today.  ♥
