From Here to Eternity

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Endless Things

Eternity bands… how do you feel about them?  Are you Team Yes (give me ALL the diamonds!) or Team No (keep the diamonds on top, where I can enjoy them)?  Admittedly, there are pros and cons of these endless rings of scintillating sparkle.  Let’s make a list…

Pros:

  1. Eternity bands are trés romantic!  The diamonds encircle the finger with no beginning and no end.  Endless diamonds = endless love.
  2. If the ring spins around on the hand, no one would ever know!  It looks the same all the way around.
  3. More diamonds means more sparkle!
  4. These unique beauties are often custom made, allowing for creativity and personalized style.

Cons:

  1. An eternity band can be more expensive than a band with diamonds only on a portion of the ring.
  2. Eternity bands are more difficult (and sometimes impossible) to size.
  3. With diamonds all the way around, the stones themselves see more wear and tear than a half-round style.
  4. Often, eternity bands are thicker to accommodate the depth of the stones.  Some may find this to be uncomfortable.

Personally, I love eternity bands.  I have been wearing my wedding ring since August of 2000, nearly twenty-four years.  Perhaps I’m a hopeless romantic – I get the warm fuzzies just looking at my ring.  I had a similar reaction when I saw this week’s featured piece for the first time.

Made entirely of platinum, this wide band reminds me of antique lace.  The edges are scalloped, waving up and down.  There are six small sections, each one features a unique combination of diamond shapes and sizes: one pear-shape, three marquises and five rounds.  Combined, the six pear-shapes have a weight of .60 carat, the eighteen marquise diamonds have a weight of 1.50 carats, and the thirty rounds have a total weight of .60 carat.  That’s 2.70 carats of endless sparkle!

Like Cinderella’s slipper, this beauty must be a perfect fit.  It is a size six, and cannot be sized.  The band has a silky-smooth interior and is quite comfortable to wear.

If you love a great eternity band AND you wear a size six, this band is simply too good to resist.  It’s a stunning Mid Century Modern design, made in the 1960’s.  Priced at $4,350.00, it’s available now.  Give us a call to claim it today.

Baubles, Bling and Feline Things

For centuries, the tiger has been a symbol of courage and strength.  This majestic feline is the largest living cat species.  A muscular and powerful body combines with a large head and paws and a long tail.  The most distinctive characteristic of the tiger is his unique coloring…  black vertical stripes on orange fur.

Just over a hundred years ago, more than 100,000 tigers roamed Asia.  Today, just 5600 remain – they are on the verge of extinction.  The largest wild tiger population is now found in India.

Recently, we acquired this playful little critter.  Made entirely of 18-karat yellow gold, this feline friend is absolutely adorable.  His lithe body and four paws coil around a ribbed coral ball.  His expression is captivating; a matched pair of marquise-shaped green chalcedony mark his eyes, black enamel highlights his nose while red enamel covers his tongue.  Six whiskers protrude from his chubby cheeks and a pair of fangs add a hint of danger to his otherwise frisky expression.

A dozen round brilliant diamonds add a touch of sparkle to his countenance – these gems have a combined weight of approximately .40 carat.  The double-prong style clip is hinged with two sharp points to pierce fabric.  This sturdy clasp helps to keep this fun-loving friend securely anchored to clothing.  A coiled tail peeks from beneath the coral ball.

If you’ve always wanted a tiger trophy, choose this Mid Century model for just $2,375.00.  He’s vivacious and versatile and in no danger of extinction.  Call for additional details.

Baubles, Bling and Quality Things

Balloons…  whether filled with air or helium, these colorful floating orbs have been used for a myriad of purposes.  Decoration, entertainment, medical procedures, meteorology and transportation are just a few things that balloons have assisted.  In their simplest form (basic latex), balloons elicit smiles and a feeling of joy.  An entire bag of them can be picked up for about $1 – making balloons a go-to party must for more than a century.

In 2009, Disney Pixar studios premiered a movie called “Up” that would capture the hearts of adults and children everywhere.  A lonely and cynical widower and retired balloon salesman attaches thousands of balloons to his house in an effort to fulfill a promise made years before.  Adventures ensue, and life lessons are learned.  The image of all those balloons carrying Carl’s house into the sky has become an iconic symbol of the beauty of letting go.

Perhaps one of the most whimsical pieces in our estate department is this pair of balloon earrings.  Created by Vhernier in 1984, these playful yet refined accessories would become one of the Italian designers best sellers.  The realistic look was created with a framework of 18-karat white gold.  The balloon itself features a sliver of citrine topped with a specially cut piece of rock crystal.

A narrow string decorated with twenty-six diamonds is tied at the base of the balloon; the wavy tail of the string is removable.  The diamonds have a combined weight of approximately .15 carat – the perfect hint of sparkle.  A rose gold version of these earrings is currently available on 1stDibs for $7,750.00.  These unconventional beauties are available at Joden for just $1,475.00 – a true steal of a deal!

Balloons are a nostalgic reminder of childhood.  No celebration is complete without balloons.  Let the festivities begin – commemorate an occasion in your life with these estate Vhernier earrings.  They’re simply too good to resist.
