What’s New – Volume 59

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

Found in every hue from soft lilac to rich mulberry, the purple quartz crystal known as amethyst has long been recognized as the birthstone for February.  It’s also designated as the ideal gift for the 6th wedding anniversary.  Although the color has always been associated with royalty, amethyst is actually one of the most affordable of all gemstones.  It has been a popular choice of jewelers for hundreds of years.

A favorite among Victorians, amethyst was featured in everything from pendants to bracelets, rings…  and of course, earrings like these.  Made in the late 1800’s, these simple 9-karat yellow gold earrings are comprised of three individual links that are suspended from a small gold ball.

Presenting a medium-purplish shade somewhere between iris and orchid, these round amethyst gems are set within milgrain-edged bezels.  The center links display a graduated series of natural seed pearls within a small leaf shape.  Next, a singular seed pearl is nestled within a tiny five-petaled flower.  This elegant and dainty garland is just over one inch in length.

Aged over 140 years old, these beauties aren’t perfect.  There is a small bit of lead solder on the back of each one – but luckily it isn’t noticeable from the front.  Amethyst is found all over the world, even in the United States.  The Four Peaks mine in the Mazatzal mountains of Phoenix Arizona has produced some very fine dark purple amethyst crystals.  Measuring a 7 on the Mohs scale, it’s suitable for daily wear.  These little darlings are priced at just $425 – a steal for true antique earrings…  and just in time for Valentine’s Day!  ♥ ♥ ♥

It’s a Vibe

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Wavy Things

Every year for one week…  eight magical days, I’m a beach girl.  As soon as the Atlantic comes into view, we turn off the air-conditioning and all the windows go down; the seagulls welcome us with a beautiful huoh-huoh – the air is heavy with the salty, pungent scent of the ocean.  I love the feeling of my toes pushing into the warm sand, the hot summer sun burns my skin to a glorious shade of pink, and the salt from the ocean combines with the sea air to dry my hair into a tangled web of knotted frizz.  Standing at the edge of the water…  the waves flow over my perfectly manicured toes and ebb back out carrying bits of shells and tiny pebbles with every turn.  And for each of those eight days, my heart sings and my soul is at peace.

This modern ring perfectly captures that feeling.  Made from the warm tones of 14-karat yellow gold, this piece embodies the motion created by ocean waves.  A series of gradually increasing curves create the left side of the ring… three of them are accented with round diamonds.  Glimmering white, these eleven gems mimic the sea foam that bubbles onto the shoreline…  offering .25 carat of sparkle.  Forming the trough of one wave and the crest of the next is a strong curl of polished gold.

Glowing from beneath the crest is a fancy-cut cabochon amethyst.  This fancy cut gem weighs approximately 5.00 carats; entire surface is smooth as silk sculpted into a ribbed trio.  When the amethyst ends, the gold begins again – finishing each contour then fading softly away.

Much like an ocean wave, this ring glides onto the hand.  It’s extremely comfortable and enjoyable to wear.  Every curve and line has a sleek organic feel.  Priced at just $1200 on our site…  this wave ring is beautifully unique.  Whether you’re a beach girl every day, once a year or only in your dreams – this ring is for you.  It’s a vibe.
