Pick of the Week – Volume 90

Baubles, Bling and Discounted Things

Sometimes, the best things have a little bit of mystery.  Today’s featured Pick of the Week is one of those things.  These vintage earrings bridge the gap between formal and fun.    Made from the unique color combination of black, white and purple, they’re distinct.  Paired with your favorite flares and long tunic sweater, these earrings could be mistaken for costume.  There are definitely times when having your accessories perceived as imitation is a definite advantage.

In reality, these 2.5-inch-long beauties are anything but costume.  Made entirely of platinum, each earring is made up of eight bezel-set individual stones.  Each link is jointed, allowing them to dance with every move you make.  Starting at the top are a matched pair of oval amethyst stones that have a combined weight of 4.00 carats.  Centered at the base of this gem is a small round diamond that connects to an oblong bar of black onyx.  Situated beneath the onyx are a pair of clear rectangular rock crystal quartz stones.  The four stones offer 8.00 carats of simple elegance, and serve as a breath between the deeply saturated tones of the amethyst and onyx.  Two additional diamonds are next, each one anchored to the middle of the piece of quartz above it.  Finally, a large pear-shaped amethyst rounds out the bottom.  Together, these two vibrant violet gems have a weight of 8.00 carats.  If you were keeping track, there are six European cut diamonds that sing with .25 carat of scintillating sparkle.  Whew.  That’s quite a roster.

These are the kind of earrings that can be worn alone.  Offering physical size, they make a statement.  It’s up to you whether to decide if you’re going to amp them up or downplay them.  Wear them antiquing and thrifting during the day.  Later, spice up date night by showcasing them with a bodycon deep-V top and those jeans that somehow manage to both look and feel good.  It’s all about balance, and these vintage earrings have that in spades.  Previously offered for $4,350, we are dropping the price to just $3,300.00.  You need these in your life.  ♥

What’s New – Volume 70

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

I love tiny treasures.  Dana and I squeal with delight when we stumble across a super sweet little bauble.  It’s awe-inspiring that someone was able to create these miniature pieces of perfection – they’re almost always vintage.  Modern new jewelry isn’t nearly as cool as the old stuff.

Earrings from the early 20th century are an unusual find.  Due to the fascination with the bob hairstyle, earlobes were often hidden – a fact that rendered earrings unnecessary.  Because the demand decreased, jewelers shied away from earrings and concentrated their efforts on more profitable choices.  Now, more than 100 years later, the few Edwardian and Art Deco earrings that were made are highly sought after.

When these petite darlings came in the mail, Dana and I grabbed them.  Even from within the worn plastic bag, we knew they were special.  Who could resist a delicate sapphire and diamond earring?  Definitely not us!  When I read the description provided, I was shocked to read these words…

“Silver, Yellow Gold and Foil-backed Glass Dangle Earrings”

They’re made from a lovely combination of 10-karat yellow gold and silver…  but the stones aren’t real!  Each of the eighteen colorless gems is a foilback.  This old-world technique involves applying a thin sheet of foil with a metallic sheen to the back of a stone to make it appear more brilliant.  Most often, this type of stone is set in a closed back collet, a setting that conceals and protects the foil.  The light blue centers resemble sapphires, but are also glass.

Authentic and original, these earrings are perfectly sized and look great on the ear.  The leverback style ensures ease of use in addition to the delightful vintage vibe.  Because they aren’t genuine gemstones, they’re a steal of a deal at just $325.00.  If you love them, DO NOT hesitate!  They won’t last long… click over to our website or give us a call to make them yours today.

Pick of the Week – Volume 43

Baubles and Bling with Unbelievable Pricing

We introduced these beauties about three years ago…  crafted from 14 karat gold in the mid-1900’s, these earrings were originally made for a baby.  Unique features such as short threaded posts and safety backs were a clear signal that these petite jewels were meant to worn by an infant or toddler.

As sweet as they were, there were a couple minute details that bugged us.  Here are some before pictures.  Do you see what we saw?

The color of the gold didn’t match…  one earring was a touch more rosy than the other.  Plus, those posts were SO short!  We weighed the options:

  • Was it better to keep them original and wait for that one perfect customer?
  • Or was it better to switch the posts and polish the earrings so that they matched?

Dana and I made an executive decision and chose option two.  Check out the subtle transformation…

By switching to standard length friction posts and backs, these beauties can now be worn by anyone.  With thirty years of expertise, our in-house jeweler applied a very light polish and brought the earrings back to their original matched finish.  A couple small tweaks have taken these vintage gems from a “hard sale” to simple and effortless.

Two round diamonds are nestled within square milgrain-edged borders. With a combined weight of .40 carat, these diamonds are further enhanced with subtle engraved patterns on the surrounding gold margins.  With more to offer than typical diamond stud earrings, these sweet gems have us completely enchanted.

We revamped the pricing as well.  Previously listed for $1,100.00, we are now offering them for just $775.00!  Click the photos to check them out on our site.  Vintage diamond earrings are tough to find – don’t let these ones pass you by.  Nab them while you can!
