What’s New – Volume 59

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

Found in every hue from soft lilac to rich mulberry, the purple quartz crystal known as amethyst has long been recognized as the birthstone for February.  It’s also designated as the ideal gift for the 6th wedding anniversary.  Although the color has always been associated with royalty, amethyst is actually one of the most affordable of all gemstones.  It has been a popular choice of jewelers for hundreds of years.

A favorite among Victorians, amethyst was featured in everything from pendants to bracelets, rings…  and of course, earrings like these.  Made in the late 1800’s, these simple 9-karat yellow gold earrings are comprised of three individual links that are suspended from a small gold ball.

Presenting a medium-purplish shade somewhere between iris and orchid, these round amethyst gems are set within milgrain-edged bezels.  The center links display a graduated series of natural seed pearls within a small leaf shape.  Next, a singular seed pearl is nestled within a tiny five-petaled flower.  This elegant and dainty garland is just over one inch in length.

Aged over 140 years old, these beauties aren’t perfect.  There is a small bit of lead solder on the back of each one – but luckily it isn’t noticeable from the front.  Amethyst is found all over the world, even in the United States.  The Four Peaks mine in the Mazatzal mountains of Phoenix Arizona has produced some very fine dark purple amethyst crystals.  Measuring a 7 on the Mohs scale, it’s suitable for daily wear.  These little darlings are priced at just $425 – a steal for true antique earrings…  and just in time for Valentine’s Day!  ♥ ♥ ♥

Vintage Victorian

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Quiet Things

Defined as big and bold, statement earrings were all the rage in 2021 – these attention grabbing stunners encapsulated everything from large diamond studs to Victorian chandeliers.  Perhaps you indulged in a killer pair of gold hoops or daring shoulder-sweeping fringe earrings.  These have become your go-to accessory for the days when your confidence is through the roof and also for the days when you need a pick-me-up.  They’re audacious and an absolute “must-have” in your jewelry box.

But what about the in-between days?  The comfortable, feel-good, normal days…  the cozy sweater and leggings kind of days?  On an average Wednesday, reach for these quiet beauties.

Made from two shades of 14-karat gold, these earrings are everything you never knew you needed.  With articulated moving parts, they swing enchantingly in the ear.  The details are soft and subtle…  with voluptuous curves and small engraved patterns, they’re lightweight and comfortable in the ear.  The overall feel is botanical combining the rosy gold that Victorian jewelry is known for with the brighter, more yellow-y hue of high-karat gold.

The lower portion of the earring is original and authentic from the late 1800’s, although the shepherd’s hook tops are a more modern addition.  A tiny c-shaped catch keeps the wire closed, a nice safety feature.  Four dainty navette-shapes dangle from the bottom of each one, adding even more movement and charm.

These are earrings that you will find yourself wearing more and more often.  They speak softly, adding a touch of loveliness to an otherwise ordinary day.  While they may not be considered statement earrings by most, they could easily become YOUR statement earrings…  a testament to quiet joy and the happiness of a mundane day.  They’re available on our site for just $950.00 – make them yours today.

On the Fringe

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Fancy Things

As much as I hate to admit it… fall is right around the corner.  Time seems to be unraveling at a seemingly impossible pace.  It’ll be all about bonfires, cozy sweaters and fabulous accessories.  The fall forecast is calling for bold statement pieces…  stacks of gold bangles, wide bracelets, layers of chain and oversize earrings.

“Bigger is better” promises to be the theme.  Vogue says “Get into the swing of the season with pieces that move along with you.”  Fringe is everywhere, decorating the body from head to toe.  The fashion icon magazine also predicts an explosion of botanical beauty.  There are sure to be plenty of modern pieces that fit the bill; however, at Joden, we can’t help but look to the past for inspiration… back to the Victorian era.

These killer earrings from the 1880’s are on trend for 2022.  Made from 10 karat yellow gold, they’re everything Vogue called for and more.  The top of each one features an oval frame that is fitted with a piece of clear crystal.  Like a true piece of art, beneath the glass is a miniature masterpiece; depicted on a slice of mother-of-pearl is a delicate flower.  The floret is three-dimensional, blooming from the surface with fluted elegance.  The stem and leaves are hand-painted and simplistic.

A clever removable bottom sways enchantingly.  A geometric top caps a series of graduated strands of gold.  Nine lengths of chain dangle from each ear…  every one with a tiny gold bead at the end.  Made in “day to night” style, these Victorian beauties can be worn with or without the fringed fan-like bottoms.  A hint of black enamel traces each line of the earrings, adding a hint of color to the otherwise golden jewels.  Gently swinging with every move you make, these earrings are available now for just $1,450.00.
