What’s New – Volume 38

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

This latest piece is fresh from our shop.  Located on the premises, Joden Jewelers is doubly blessed to have this state-of-the-art facility staffed with two world class bench jewelers.  Having this valuable resource at our fingertips allows us to do so much more than an average store.  We are able to restore, repair and create…  sometimes on a whim.  This necklace is one of those whims.

Curvaceously charming, this pendant was made from a bar pin.  Originally designed to be worn horizontally, this lovely pin had been hanging around the store for awhile.  Clovers are a treasured symbol of faith, hope and love.  Enchanted by the heart-shaped pavé pearl leaves and curled stem, we had a moment of inspiration and decided to convert it to a pendant.

By simply removing the pin stem and then giving the brooch a ninety-degree turn – an elegant new pendant was born.  In a genius move, we decided to hide the bail behind the stem.  I love that we were able to keep the original line of the brooch, it’s simple perfection.  One small Old Mine Cut diamond is nestled deep between the three leaves of the clover adding a little sparkle.  Priced at $825.00, this 14-karat yellow gold necklace won’t last long.  Hop on over to our site for more details.

Pick of the Week – Volume 51

Joden Girl

Baubles and Bling with Unbelievable Pricing

There are two things that a girl just can’t resist…  a great pair of earrings and a good sale!  A little bit of bling on the earlobe is like the icing on a cake.  They are the accessory that elevates an outfit to the next level.  There are millions of possibilities and you can never have too many pair.

Made of 14 karat yellow gold, these three-leaf clover earrings have been on our website for months.  They didn’t sell.  BUT…  they were non-pierced, like so many other earrings in our estate department.  Previously, our thought process was that we would convert each pair to pierced as they sold.  However, we discovered that NONE of them were selling.  Customers don’t want to wait.  Instant gratification is key.  When someone wants to buy themselves a new pair of earrings, they want them today.  Right now.

In January, we added a second bench jeweler to our staff, Debbie Miles.  With more than thirty years of experience, she came highly recommended and has been a welcome addition to the Joden team.  When she isn’t doing customer repairs or custom work, she is able to churn out several of these smaller stock jobs, like converting earrings from clip-ons to pierced… one pair at a time.  Now, with newly soldered posts and backs, these opal clovers are ready to go.  You can wear them with the stems dropping below your lobe or flip them over, allowing the stem to climb up your ear.  Either way, these are a fantastic pair of staple earrings,  They offer pops of color in the opals but still blend well with any outfit.  Dress them up or wear them with your favorite jeans and hoodie.  You just can go wrong.  They are indeed a great pair of earrings.

You may remember that I mentioned two irresistible things…  these great earrings AND a good sale.  Now properly converted and oh-so-wearable, we have given these gems a price reduction.  Previously on our site for $600, they are now available at the unbelievable price of just $480.00.  Hop on over to our site and see for yourself.  You know you can’t resist!

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 130

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

Victorians were incredibly superstitious.  Many of these unusual beliefs were related to death.  Before the traditional funeral homes that we know today, wakes were held in the home.  This time of mourning lasted several days, often to confirm that the person had actually passed and wasn’t in a coma.  During this time, every mirror in the house was covered.   This was to prevent the spirit from being forever trapped inside the mirror.

Once the actual funeral procession began, Victorian believed it was bad luck to cross paths with it.  In fact, even if you were headed the opposite direction on the same road, you had to turn around and go the other direction to avoid the succession of mourners altogether.  In the rare instance that this was not possible, if you held fast to a button, you just might be able to ward off the negative aura.

Many Victorians also dreaded the death omen…  these could come in many forms:

  • Seeing yourself in your dreams
  • Spotting an owl in the daytime
  • Seeing a sparrow land on a piano
  • Finding a single snowdrop in the garden

Because of all of these superstitions and bad omens, Victorians sought out symbols of luck and good fortune…  like the clover and the horseshoe.  These two emblems became a recurring theme during the 1800’s.  We often find them on brooches and small pins.  When this sweet little ring appeared, we nabbed it!  This authentic piece features a petite three petaled clover in the center.  The leaves are created from a trio of cabochon opals.  Tiny seed pearls dot the stem of the clover and the shank of the ring.  These three leaves symbolize everything anyone could ever need – a little bit of hope, a lot of faith, and unending love.  What better way to protect yourself from foreboding dangers than this lovely ring…  priced to sell at just $280.
