All That Glitters Is Gold

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and Golden Things

Joden Jewelers is nestled in the heart of Grove City, Pennsylvania.  With a population hovering around 8000, it’s more Mayberry than Manhattan.  If you’re the kind of girl who has your eye on current trends and hot new styles, you should probably know that we tend to trail about two years behind the rest of the world.  Until now.

While yellow gold is making a splash on the Red Carpet in Hollywood, and popping up on the New York fashion runways, our customers are also requesting this throwback metal.  For more than twenty years, white metals have reigned supreme – platinum, white gold, and sterling silver.  But for the last couple years, yellow gold has been slowly inching its way back into the spotlight.

Some are calling it sleek and trendy, while others say its vintage-inspired.  Either way, it seems like the natural richness of yellow gold is here to stay.  But don’t put away all your white metals – just warm them up with a classic piece, perhaps a pair of antique earrings like these.

The first pair are Etruscan Revival.  Etruscan Revival was a movement during the Grand Period (1860-1885) of the Victorian Era.  Artisans revived the art of ancient techniques using corded wire, filigree, and granulation.  These earrings are made from 18 karat yellow gold with a tiny diamond in the center of each.  They are available on our website for just $1550.00.

If you’re a diamond girl, then the second pair of earrings are for you!  Made in classic lever-back style with two Old Mine Cut diamonds on each one, these are perfect for every day wear.  Priced at $2500.00.

From Mayberry to Manhattan and everywhere in between – Go for the gold!

Would you prefer one bangle or two?

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bangles, and Bracelet Bling

For thousands of years, we have been wearing bands around our wrists…  wood, leather, cloth, plastics, and metal.  Sometimes they are functional – used for telling time, carrying vital medical information, or even details about our identity.  And sometimes, they are just for beauty, like the ones pictured here.

At Joden, we have bracelets for everyone – men and women, infants and little girls. We have shiny bands of gold, and dazzling diamond links.  The photo shows some of our finest examples of Victorian, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco.  Two of my favorite pieces are available on our website…

Art Nouveau is my favorite period…  I love how it celebrates nature.  This piece is no exception – the finely carved flowers and leaves are the perfect background for three simple stones, two rubies and one diamond.  Priced at just $1150, this piece is perfect in so many ways.  It can be stacked with other bangles, but can still be worn alone.  It is ideal for everyday wear, yet also able to add some sparkle to your holiday dresses.  I would be thrilled to find this under my Christmas Tree!

This delicate beauty could easily makes its way to the top of my list…  Etruscan Revival done to perfection.  That tiny gold beading, the gently sloping sides, tiny openings flanking two bright blue sapphires and one little diamond winking in the center…  oh my!  Made of a buttery 15 karat yellow gold and priced right at $1850, this bangle is destined to be under someone’s tree this year.

These are just a couple examples of the fine vintage jewelry available on our website and in our showroom every day.  Today kicks off our holiday hours…  Joden Jewelers will be open until 8:00pm every evening this week (Monday through Friday).  We also have special holiday hours on Saturday, Christmas Eve.

Do You Believe In Reincarnation?

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and Recycled Things

Beauty has been defined and redefined in thousands of ways.  Jewelry is often the subject of those definitions.  Designers and style icons offer ideas of what is on trend for the season.  But, are they truly fresh, new ideas?  Or are styles simply reworked and brought back to life?  The vintage jewelry at Joden is a constant reminder that every style is a throwback.  A revival, if you will.

The bracelet pictured above is no exception.  Known as Etruscan Revival, the style of this piece is timeless.  Original Etruscan jewelry dates back to the 3rd and 4th centuries, however, this piece wasn’t crafted until the end of the 19th century, during the 1890’s.

I don’t know when we acquired this bracelet… but I know that I have clasped it around my wrist at least a dozen times.  I have admired the matte finish of the brassy yellow gold, expressed a secret smile over the small daisy-like flowers, and I have carefully run my fingernail over the tiny rows of beads that create the delicate design.

Granulation is a form of gold work in which tiny beads of high karat gold are applied in geometric or linear patterns to a high karat gold surface.  It is utilized to perfection in this classic piece.  The natural warmth and richness of the metal speaks for itself, no gemstones or other ornamentation is needed.

This bracelet, a true antique, is on point with jewelry trends for this season.  It’s a statement bangle, no layering is required here.  It would be a truly spectacular addition to any wardrobe; perfect for a night out or able to be worn every day.  Come in and try it for yourself.
