What’s New – Volume 39

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

It’s no secret that I love daisies…  they are my very favorite flower.  From the bold yellow center to the spray of bright white petals that fan out from it.  Silly as it sounds, daisies are indeed the friendliest flower.  Not only are they great on their own, they also pair well with other flowers.

Our latest find is simply too sweet to pass up.  Made from 18-karat gold, this brooch takes the form of  miniature bouquet of flowers.  Presenting a charming trio of one daisy, one pansy and a bachelor’s button  – the variegated shades of purple, yellow and white complement each other beautifully.

Made from 18-karat green gold, the stems of each blossom are intertwined.  Cleverly textured to look authentic and real, they are held together with a double loop of 18-karat rose gold ribbon.  The true beauty of the piece is captured in the multicolored enamel that brings each flower to life.  From the tiny pink line that runs down the center of each daisy petal to the blending of violet and golden hues on the pansy – this pin is Art Nouveau perfection.

A tiny Old Mine Cut diamond marks the center of each flower – much like the cherry on top of a sundae.  Moderately priced at $1,950.00, this brooch is the ideal way to have a touch of summer in your life every day of the year.

Majestic Beauty

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and Enameled Wings

After nearly two years of a worldwide pandemic, amidst quarantines and shut-downs…  you might think that the divorce rate would be at an all time high.  Surprisingly, against all odds, it’s actually on the decline.  More couples are making it work.  It may sound silly, but it makes me hopeful for the future.

Though we are making progress, we could learn something from swans.  Even during courtship, these majestic beauties engage in romantic gestures like head to head posturing – their long necks form a heart, exemplifying the love and fidelity swans are known for.

One of the largest flying birds, swans can weigh as much as 33 pounds and have a ten-foot wingspan.  They glide regally across the water when swimming; in flight, swans soar with slow wing beats and their necks stretched out.  Once paired, they mate for life.  They build their nests together and take turns incubating their eggs.  Swans are well-known symbols of monogamy and everlasting love.

The Art Nouveau period lasted from 1890-1910.  The wearable art from this period has an organic and fluid feel.  Made from rich yellow gold, the pieces often depict subject matter from nature, like this one.  Made from high karat yellow gold, this petite Nouveau brooch is a celebration of color.  It centers on a glorious oval opal that comes alive with flashes of green, blue, red and orange.  Surrounded by a fluted bezel, the opal is framed by a pair of swans.  Elegant in shape and form, the neck of each bird curls back around in a graceful arch while the body stretches the entire length of the center stone.  Polychromatic enamel boasts hues from the palest of pinks, peach, lemony-yellow and Tiffany blue.  Four small round diamonds accent the northern and southern tips of the opal, three at the top and one at the bottom.

Viewed from behind, you can see the link that allows this brooch to also be worn as a pendant.  The small mechanical swivel tucks away when not in use, or flips out as needed.  In addition, a shepherd’s hook is carefully fitted to the base – this gently curved wire is the ideal spot for a pendant watch.  I love that this dainty darling can be worn in multiple ways.  With magnificent detail, these fine feathered fowl are available for just $3,750.00.

Tooting Our Own Horn

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and  Musical Things

Ah, Valentine’s Day… it always evokes images of Cupid, hearts, and all things pink and red.  It’s my favorite holiday – what could be better than a day devoted to love?  From small children to adults, everyone can enjoy Valentine’s Day.  Cards will be exchanged, flowers given, candies devoured…  all in the name of love.

As soon as I laid my eyes on this turn of the century brooch, I knew it was the perfect piece for today.  Made entirely of 18 karat yellow gold, the simplistic yet charming appeal is undeniable.  It’s a horn, but not an ordinary one…  it’s an early form, known as a hunting horn.  This melodious instrument was used to signal every aspect of a hunt, from the Moving Off call (marking the beginning) to the Blowing for Home (indicating the end) and everything in between.

The flared bell of the horn features a series of eight Old European Cut diamonds, each one handset with four prongs.  Totaling approximately .50 carat, these beauties add an element of sparkle to this otherwise spartan horn.  Like its real-life counterpart, the instrument is made from a single piece of tubing wrapped in a coil with a wide bell at the end.  The circular hoop shape lent itself to be easily slung over the shoulder while not in use.

Perhaps you noticed the miniature cherub seated atop the end of the horn?  This Cupid-like figure beams from his post, lounging back with playful abandon.  His golden curls add to his boyish charm, and one tiny diamond winks from within the delicate curve of his wing.  The wings are often thought to symbolize how flighty lovers can be while Cupid’s youthful appearance is believed to demonstrate that love is irrational (just like a young boy).

Priced at $1,650.00, this Art Nouveau beauty is ideal for Valentine’s Day.  This and so much more is available online and in our 144 South Broad Street location.  Not to toot our own horn, but our inventory boasts something for everyone.  You won’t be disappointed.  Visit our showroom and make this gem yours today.
