What’s New – Volume 95

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

On a scale of my most to least favorite types of jewelry, bracelets come in near or at the bottom.  I like to look at them, and I want to wear them – but somehow, they end up laying in a puddle on my desk before I’ve finished my first cup of tea.

I used to think it was because I have a small wrist.  I wear a six-inch bracelet as opposed to the standard seven-inch length.  But, with an in-house bench jeweler – I could easily have a bracelet adjusted to fit.  I also discovered that there are a lot of custom-sized (both shorter and longer) bracelets in antique jewelry.  So, it would seem that the wrist size was just a cop out.  In my heart of hearts, I’m really a ring and earring girl.

Recently, we acquired a really lovely piece that has me giving bracelets a second look.  Made entirely of 18-karat, this beauty was made in the late 1800’s, near the turn of the century.  There are seventeen individual links…  nine of them feature two interlocking whiplash lines with a small cornflower blue sapphire set in the center.  Each bright blue gem is set within a smooth-edged bezel – combined these nine stones have a total weight of .75 carat.

Alternating with those links are eight small floral blossoms.  Three-dimensional and lifelike, each tiny flower has five petals.  Marking the center of each one is a small natural pearl.  It’s a Victorian vibe with hints of Art Nouveau – a truly glorious combination.  It measures a generous 7.5 inches with a cleverly hidden clasp.  For a smaller size wrist, it could be adjusted.  Super sweet and in superb condition, this bracelet is on our site for just $2,350.00.

At the end of the day, I’m still a ring and earring girl.  I can appreciate a great bracelet and might even take one for a spin now and again.  This beauty deserves full-time love and appreciation.  If you’re a true bracelet lover, hop on over to our site and make this one yours.

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and the Latest Things

Having spent his life in the jewelry industry, Joe has his share of stories to tell.  Some of them are funny and often involve family – we’ve heard those a time or two.  Some of them are mystifying – nearly unbelievable.  Ask him about the mysterious disappearance of the Giuliano box.  Others are informational – even educational.  One of those stories ends with advice on buying jewelry.  Joe’s mentor told him that in order to buy a piece and be able to sell it, it has to be one of two things:

  • A bargain – so that you can flip it quickly, or…
  • Beautiful – so that the only thing a customer can complain about is the price.

This week’s featured item falls into the latter category – it’s very beautiful.

Made from platinum in classic Edwardian style, this bracelet is super sweet.  It’s monochromatic with all of the elements (the metal, the diamonds, and the pearls) offering a colorless or creamy white hue. Three flowers create the center links and span the width of the wrist.  Each one is comprised of a milgrain-edged bezel-set diamond center, six natural pearl petals, and marquise-shaped diamond-accented leaves.

There are fifteen diamonds in all that offer a total weight of just .25 carat.  Not only do the pearls form the petals, they also separate the floral links, twenty-two of them in all.  The remainder of the piece is quite basic, with little detail to note.  These links are simply there to provide length.  The narrow box clasp is cleverly hidden within one of those links.  A safety chain offers further security and completes the piece.

In near perfect condition, this bracelet is beautiful…  but it’s no bargain.  And we make no apologies for that.  An antique piece of this quality is becoming exceedingly more difficult to procure.  This botanical beauty is the latest addition to our estate department; it’s available in store or on our site for $3,750.00.  It’s worth every penny.

What’s New – Volume 28

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and The Latest Things

Everything’s better with a bow, right?  Dana and I are all tied up over this latest diamond studded edition to our estate department.  Bridging the gap between the end of the Victorian era and the beginning of the Edwardian period, this authentic and original bracelet is practically perfect in every way.

Five individual pieces of 14 karat yellow gold curb-link chain measuring seven inches each comprise the base of the bracelet.  These fine chains are not soldered together, they’re loose allowing for a bit of movement.  Permanently affixed to the center of the bracelet is one of three silver bows.  The other two are soldered to the left and right of the center at evenly spaced intervals.  Made of 800 silver (as hallmarked on the back of the clasp), these tiny three-dimensional bows are unusually shaped with large loops and very short tails.  There are exactly eight diamonds in each for a total of twenty-four stones that have a combined weight of approximately .50 carat.

Offering turn-of-the-century styling, the bracelet is delicate and timeless.  Expertly crafted, it’s absolutely charming and perfect for daily wear.   Shown on the arm, the physical size and length are suitable for most wrists.  It’s in excellent wearable condition.

Bows have long been a symbol of femininity, and these tiny ribbons bring a touch of soft, curvaceous charm to an otherwise simple bracelet.  Priced at just $2,250.00, it’s the ideal way to add the warmth of yellow gold to your jewelry wardrobe.  Drop by our website to make it yours today.
