Baubles, Bling and  Garnet Things

January’s birthstone is garnet.  It’s one that customers always seem to like.  Available in a variety of colors and reasonably priced, garnets are quite popular.  Victorians were particularly fond of them, especially the dark red hues.  Called Mozambique garnets, the smaller round pomegranate-colored beauties were often clustered together for visual impact.  Larger, more impressive stones were able to stand alone, like the one featured in this bangle.

The matte finish on this 18-karat yellow gold bracelet offers natural warmth and subtle shimmer.  Elongated triangular facets around the edge of this 5.00 carat gemstone glimmer in the light.  Reflecting glints of cherry red and mahogany, this garnet is lovely.  A rectangular halo of twenty-two seed pearls frames the stone in perfect precision.  Well-matched and in good condition, these natural sea gems add a romantic, feminine aura.  The inside circumference measures 6.25 inches, ideal for a small to average-sized wrist.

Ribbed details add dimension to the hollow tube that encircles the arm.   The ends of the tube flare out like a trumpet to flank the gem adorned center.  A series of muted hallmarks can be seen on the tongue portion of the clasp.  Still working perfectly, it closes with a satisfying snap.  For further peace of mind, a tiny safety chain dangles between each side of the open clasp with a tiny shepherd’s hook securing it in place.  Made in the late 1890’s, this antique bangle is priced at just $2,650.00.  Stop by and make it yours.  ♥
