Joe’s Special Box Luxury Edition – Volume One

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and  A Collector’s Things

The treasures at Joden are seemingly endless.  Our showcases are overflowing with the finest antique, estate and modern jewelry.  From Victorian vignettes to Art Deco dazzlers – our collection is truly something to behold.  What you may not know is that not every gem is on display.  Some lucky guests have received a private showing in Joe’s office.  There, nestled into the golden oak cabinetry, tucked between endless volumes of Sotheby’s and Christie’s catalogs are the crème de la crème; an assemblage of the rarest jewels suitable for even the most seasoned connoisseurs and private collectors.

This feast for the eyes is just one such opulent piece.  Made around 1890, this combination brooch/pendant is ablaze with color.  Fiery tones of red and orange enamel pair with gem fine emeralds in the boldest green hue.  Handmade 18 karat yellow gold and silver settings cradle each of the five emeralds as well as fifty-six old cut diamonds.

These vibrant verdant emeralds have a total weight of 4.65 carats, the largest being a pear-shape stone that weighs 3.00 carats alone.  Mere words or photos cannot adequately describe the vivid color displayed by each bright and beautiful gem.  Interspersed between these pops of emerald and the crimson-enameled leaves are sparkling diamonds, over 2.25 carats of glittering beauty.

A secondary level of genius in this piece is the removable pin stem.  An intricately threaded pin can be unscrewed, effectively extracting the pin mechanism and allowing the pendant to lay flush with the skin.  An 18 karat yellow gold enameled chain accompanies the pendant – it’s the ideal complement featuring the same bright green hue but done in enamel instead of gemstones.  And although it’s a perfect pairing – it’s most likely not original to the piece.

The fitted leather box is also not original, but rather made by another famed collector, D.S. Lavender Antiques of London.  The rich green leather exterior is striking against the creamy velvet interior.  Known for acquiring and selling the very best – he was proud to add his name to the lid of the fitted case.  From one famed collector to another, this is truly a piece of luxury jewelry… appropriately priced at $45,000.

Joe’s Special Box – Volume 118

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling, and A Collector’s Things

This week, Dana and I stumbled on a little gem that has us tied up in knots….  or a bow.  We’re in love with this 18 karat white gold Edwardian ring.  It’s detail after detail of antique excellence.  A hexagon-shaped top holds the center stone – a transitional cut European diamond that weighs approximately .35 carat.

Elegant filigree decorates both sides of this early 20th century gem.  The detail is precise – featuring a botanical vibe.  This fine wirework is accented with milgrain beading – a classic Edwardian element.  While each of these things are essential to the overall appeal of the ring, it’s those bows that we are so enamored with.

Each shoulder is meticulously decorated with a loosely tied double loop bow.  The asymmetrical trailing tails add feminine and whimsical style.  Bows have been fashionable since the 17th century when the Marquise de Sévigné pinned one at the center of her bodice.  A painting of her wearing a bow brooch in this fashion hangs in the Musée Carnavalet in Paris – celebrating the style and guaranteeing the popularity of the bow for centuries to come.

These unusual details are the very things that make each antique ring special and uniquely you.  Made in 1915, this beauty would make a perfect engagement ring or a right-hand ring.  Priced at just $825, this sweet bit of bow bling won’t last long.  Call today to make it yours.

Inspired Innovation

Joden Girl

Baubles, Bling and  Nostalgic Things

Sometimes, in the jewelry world – the word reproduction carries a bit of a stigma.  A modern facsimile is not always as desirable as an antique original.  There’s no question that a mint condition, one hundred-year-old Edwardian filigree ring is worth more than the mere rocks and metal that it’s made from.   The age and rarity of the piece amp up the value, and like most antiques…  condition is everything.  Finding a pristine gem from the early 1900’s can be challenging to say the least.  Sometimes a modern lookalike is the perfect fit.

Clever wordplay and marketing genius has helped to change the opinion of copycat jewels.  The phrase “Art Deco Inspired” has a distinctly romantic feel to it – much better than “reproduction”!  At Joden, we pride ourselves on the broad range of our inventory; we often boast about having something for everyone and every budget.  But it’s not bragging if it’s true!

The halo on this little angel is comprised of fourteen single-cut diamonds.  These uniquely faceted stones feature just seventeen facets and were commonly used in Edwardian and Art Deco jewelry.  The ring is made entirely of platinum, with delicate milgrain beaded edges bordering every stone.

Sitting center stage is an authentic old-cut pear-shape diamond that weighs .42 carat.  With a color grade of I and a clarity grade of VS – this dazzling beauty is the crowning glory of this modern marvel.  Originally priced at $3,500 – we are now offering it for just $2,625.

Maybe pear-shapes aren’t for you…  not to worry, we’ve got you covered.

This sweet gem is very similar to the first one, but at the same time…  it’s different.  Also made from platinum, it features fourteen single-cut diamonds in the halo – but this halo is cushion-shaped with a European cut diamond in the heart.  This Euro weighs .41 carat – it’s a bright G color and a VS clarity.  I love the round center with the cushion-shaped halo…  it’s unexpected and oh-so charming.  Previously priced at $4,225 – this beauty is now available for just $3,168.

My favorite detail of both rings is a small and easily over-looked element.  Between the center stones and the surrounding halo is a small space, room to breathe.  It’s a breath of fresh air.  And right now, let’s face it…  we could all use a little break and a whole lot of fresh air.  These rings are not on our site – call for details or stop by for a tiny bit of jewelry therapy.
